10 Reasons Choosing tOSU Was The Best Decision Of My Life

Choosing where you want to go to college is one of the most important and difficult decisions you will make in your lifetime. Everyone says "You'll know when it is the right school for you," but does everyone get that feeling? How do you REALLY know for sure?

1. When people ask how college is, I don't have to lie.

During every break, the most common question you hear as a is "So how's college going?" Some may say it's great or they love it and the conversation quickly dies down. However, when people have asked me this is only the beginning of the conversation. I don't feel like I have to lie, I simply just explain to them what I love about Ohio State and they can quickly see that I truly mean it.

2. Every time I see a campus tour, I smile

Whenever I see tour groups while walking around I feel the urge to tell them how amazing Ohio State is and convince them to come here. I feel envy that they're experiencing this beautiful campus for the first time because they're going to remember that day forever.

3. O-H...

I-O! This isn't a myth, you'll hear this often at Ohio State. No matter where you are, whether it is during a football game, or a Saturday night, or simply walking down the street, if you scream "O-H..." you will hear "I-O!" back instantly. The first month of school I screamed "O-H..." on High Street and people in cars driving by screamed "I-O!" through the window.

4. We beat TTUN.

Rivalry week is not exaggerated over social media. Every "M" on campus is crossed out, and this is all anyone thinks about. Everyone cuts their Thanksgiving Break short to come back for the big game without thinking twice. Ohio State woke up at 5 a.m. that day to begin game-day activities. The tension is very real and it only gets stronger every year. There's no greater feeling than sharing an enemy with 62,000 people around you and thousands of alumni all around the world.

5. People from Ohio are the nicest.

Coming to Ohio was a culture shock. Compared to New York people, Ohioans are patient and caring. Every car will stop for you to cross the street, people will always hold the door open for you and they may even ask you how your day is although you're a complete stranger. This creates a strong sense of family throughout the entire school.

6. Not just the campus, but the city.

Not only do we have one of the nicest college campus's, we also have the amazing city of Columbus. This opens you up to new restaurants, outdoor shopping malls, movie theaters and other events that are not OSU related. You can never be bored in Columbus.

7. Seeing other schools make me love it even more.

Visiting other colleges that I originally thought were similar to OSU has just made me realize that Ohio State is unique. Ohio State is different from every other school and it wasn't until seeing other places that I realized how much better OSU is for me. It's the perfect combination of athletics, academics, social life, campus, city and changing weather. Nothing compares.

8. The RPAC keeps you in shape.

The RPAC is one of the best public gyms in the country. No matter how busy, there's always a machine available. People actually do spray the equipment after using them. There's an indoor track, a sauna, basketball courts, Olympic size pool, two cafes and so much more. Coming to OSU, avoiding the freshman 15 is extremely plausible. Top off every workout with an acai bowl, taco salad or quinoa.

9. The Short North.

When you get tired of the on-campus food or the dining halls the Short North is the perfect place to eat out. My personal favorite is Marcella's Chicken Parmesan. There's something for everyone in The Short North.

10. One word: Block.

Although Ohio State offers so much more than football, block is still my favorite memory of freshman year. Nothing compares to game-day.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
