OH, SNAP! After several rumors surfacing on the internet about the show returning, Raven-Symoné has officially confirmed of a "That's So Raven" spin-off happening on Disney Channel. Now, if you're anything like me, you probably sincerely miss the "old Disney". You might even occasionally re-watch a few old episodes every now and then, and for those that still remember shows like "Lizzie McGuire," "Even Stevens," "Phil of the Future," "Kim Possible," "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," "The Proud Family," and "The Famous Jett Jackson"... this is BIG news! The nostalgia for these shows is so strong, and "That's So Raven" returning to Disney makes it even stronger.
In early 2003, Raven-Symoné debuted as Raven Baxter in the show that would break records of any other Disney show in history. Before its beginning on the network, writers struggled to find the perfect name for the show juggling between names like 'The Future is on Me' and 'Absolutely Psychic' until they met the perfect actress to fill the shoes of the beloved main character. Initially, Raven-Symoné auditioned for the lead role's ditzy best friend, Chelsea, but the writers fell in love with her so much that they insisted on her having the lead role. After the show's debut, the publicity it received was widespread, and it actually became one of Disney's most popular shows, despite their sixty-five limit rule. This limit became the basis for all of their shows, which meant that after sixty-five episodes, the show was canceled. This rule was created to prevent any shows from becoming boring or dull; however, "That's So Raven" became the first show in the network's history to overrule the limit. It actually continued airing until its 100th episode and during the airing of new episodes, the show's popularity continued to grow.
Throughout its four years of airing, the show continued to break records by being nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Children's Program and featured its own spin-off called "Cory in the House." Despite its ending in late 2007, reruns continued to air on several networks, and the show still holds to be one of Disney's most popular and best works. After the show's end, Raven-Symoné continued with her acting career, performing in several movies and shows, and in mid-2015, she became a co-host for The View. On October 27, 2016, Raven-Symoné discussed on The View that she would be leaving her job as co-host to reprise her role as Raven Baxter on the new spin-off show, which will feature her as a single mother raising two children, one who will learn of their psychic powers.
Disney attempted to create a recent spin-off for "Boy Meets World" in early 2014 with the title "Girl Meets World," and while it is currently still airing, the show has not created the buzz like many fans were hoping. If you grew up watching "Boy Meets World," you were most likely disappointed. Hopefully, Disney will redeem themselves with this new spin-off, which is rumored to air in 2017.
