The best St. Paddy's celebration in the country requires a strict schedule!

The Official Timeline Of St. Patrick's Day At UD

Ah St. Patrick's Day, the high holy holiday of Irish and non-Irish alike. The only holiday that has evolved to having almost no purpose except to party all day while wearing excessive amounts of green (and an excuse for Irish people to be extra ~extra~ about their heritage). No one does St. Paddy's Day like Dayton, and that's coming from a Chicago girl! So in honor of the recent debauchery festivities, here's the timeline of St. Patrick's day at UD.

March 16

6:00 p.m.- OK snacks. I need snacks for when I wake up, even the Empo will be closed then!

8:00 p.m.- Do I try to go to bed and wake up at 4 a.m. or should I just stay up? Definitely stay up!

10:00 p.m.- Is it too early to get ready?! I'm just so excited!

11:00 p.m.- *starts to doze off* OK, maybe I should set an alarm... Just in case...

March 17

12:00 a.m.- IT'S FINALLY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!! The best holiday of the whole entire year.

3:30 a.m.- *alarm goes off* Wake up from nap I definitely did not take because I'm powering through this!

4:00 a.m.- (OK let's be honest, it's more like 4:27 a.m. everyone took a long time to rally...) Roll through the Ghetto with the squad. Wow, this is so cool. It's like going out on a normal Friday but, like, it's 4 a.m.

5:00 a.m.- OK this is fun and all, but it just kicked in that it's 5 a.m...

*finishes 40 and then some*

6:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.- BLUR

10:30 a.m.- I would sell a kidney for an Empo breakfast sandwich right now. (Realizes that's completely unnecessary and dramatic and just uses Flex.)

10:45 a.m.- *lays in bed post bacon egg and cheese* I will NOT fall asleep. I'm ~actually~ going to my 11:15 a.m. class.

*falls asleep, does not go to 11:15*

12:30 p.m.- *gets woken up by roommate* OK people, let's do this!!!

1:00 p.m.- Join mob on Lowes

1:30 p.m.- Post at least three snap stories scanning down Lowes with a caption about how Dayton's the best place on earth (because it is, duh!)

2:00 p.m.- *ginger parade passes* I don't know if I love them or hate them... OK fine, today is their day. I love them!

3:00 p.m.- Eat so much from DD's (aka the savior of the University of Dayton). How did I spend 18 years of life without knowing the great joy that is the mac-and-cheese wrap with pulled pork?

5:00 p.m.- Tiredness kicks in. Come on, you can do it! Must push through because St. Paddy's Day only comes once a year.

*special 2017 edition*

7:00 p.m.- Cram into a house with 200 people you may or may not know to watch the game. Thank God everyone else looks as gross as I feel right now...

9:00 p.m.- Go to the Deli to get three more cases because we lost.

9:30 p.m.- as late as you can handle- Engage in typical St. Patrick's Day activities. There is a constant battle in my head between hating myself for still being out and loving St. Paddy's Day so much I cannot even consider the thought of going home.

When you finally make it home- *no thoughts because I fall asleep the second my head hits the pillow*

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
