The Official Holiday Bucket List

The Christmas music has begun, December is already a week through, and the holidays are in full swing. With only a few weeks until Christmas, it is time to let the festivities begin. Start checking things off of this bucket list to make the holidays the most wonderful time of the year.

Visit your favorite Christmas village

Between the sparkling lights, quaint boutiques and unique restaurants, small shopping areas turn into Christmas villages in the winter. Check out the Gingerbread Display at Peddler's Village in Bucks County, PA and enjoy a spirited shopping spree throughout the illuminated center.

Decorate

Whether you collect snowmen or hand-make snowflakes, now is the time to put your prized possessions on display. From Santa figurines to Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes, holiday decorations make for a cozy atmosphere guaranteed to brighten anyone's day.

Watch a movie marathon

There is nothing better than curling up by the fire and watching the Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas with your family. They are happy, sad and funny all in one, and you are always guaranteed happy endings.

Bake

Are the holidays even the holidays without cookies? Share the kitchen with someone you love for a baking and bonding sesh all in one!

Give someone a gift you are proud of

Leave the typical scarf in the past and give a gift that is meaningful. Whether it's something handmade or something that instantly reminded you of a memory you shared, take pride in the gifts you give. Not only will the receiver be thankful, but you will feel accomplished and proud.

Do a good deed

Of course the lights, music and gifting can make the holidays feel a bit glamorous but take time this season to remember what is really important. Doing something unexpected for someone else will not only brighten their day but it will also keep you smiling all day.

Eat at your favorite brunch spot

As if you aren't surrounded by enough delicious food between holiday parties... the more, the merrier, right? Pay your favorite restaurant a visit before you have to go back to school for the semester!

Go for a drive

Turn on the Christmas music, bring along some hot chocolate and go for a ride around your favorite neighborhoods admiring the lights. A classic Christmas tradition that has to be done!

Visit with extended family

With all of the holiday gatherings, you will most likely be seeing a lot of distant family this winter. Instead of rolling your eyes at all of the redundant questions you will be asked, appreciate the time you have and take advantage of the opportunity to catch up.

Go all out for New Year's Eve

Call it what you will but New Year's Eve is the one night of the year when it is acceptable to dress head-to-toe in sequins just to go to a party in your best friend's basement. Whether you reunite with your high school squad or ring in the new year with your college clan, New Year's Eve should be one for the books.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
