It's officially premiering this week! Gilmore Girls: A Year in a Life four 90 minute Netflix movies premieres this Friday, November 25. I am a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan, and probably quote the amazing quips on a daily basis.
Personally, I relate most to Rory when she was in high school, and in true Rory form, I make pro/con lists. Concerning the revival of the beloved show, and the consistent re-watching of the trailers, I have composed a revival pro/con list:
First off, let's cover the CONS:
1) Luke and Lorelai
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Luke and Lorelai. He may very well be the perfect man (along with Clark Kent and Mr. Darcy); however, here we are, nine years after the lame finale ending they got in the series, and still no wedding rings. The only good thing seems to be that they are still together, but in the trailer Lorelai seems unsure...again.
A lot of speculation from fans has assumed Rory is pregnant, personally, I think Lorelai is pregnant. I feel like they are still right where they were nine years ago, which isn't necessarily a good thing. I'm hoping I'm wrong, because they deserve so much more.
2) Rory's Beaus
Just for the record, I'm not necessarily team anyone. Although as far as the series, I was anything but #teamJess. For the record, he was manipulative, disrespectful, and, despite his saying so, did not know Rory better than anyone. Plus, he stopped pursuing her once he had her. HORRIBLE boyfriend.
Flash forward to today. Sorry #teamDean, Alexis Bledel already let is slip that she and Jared Padalecki only have one scene together. Personally, I think all these guys helped Rory grow at different times in her life, but I'm hoping the revival is anything but The Bachelorette.
Now for the PROS:
1) Rory Being Unemployed
Despite my love for Rory, she is extremely flawed. She was an excellent student, but otherwise, very spoiled. The town, and her mother, saw her as walking perfection no matter what she did. Even after she manipulated Dean for months, became his mistress, and threw a rebellious teenage fit at the age of 20. She got into three IV league schools, and proceeded to drop out of Yale after her Sophomore year because for the first time in her life someone told her she couldn't do something. On that note, she was an English major, it's extremely versatile, finish your dang degree woman!
I think her "vagabond existence" is a great lesson for her. As I said above, I don't think she will be pregnant. Personally, I think if she does end up with a guy it will be Logan. She and Jess seem more of old friends now rather than a romantic couple. The only problem with her and Logan, in the end, was timing. Otherwise, they had both matured together a lot. If, and that's a big if, she ends up with one of the original three, I predict it will be Logan.
As far as her career, anyone else think she's going to end up being a teacher? I mean, come on, it suits her way more than journalism.
2) The Embarrassment that was Season Seven is NOT the End
SO BAD. Of course, it is still part of my beloved Gilmore Girls story, so I watch it. In fact, let's just go ahead and lump Season Six into this nonsense. First of all, the character we all collectively hate: April Nardini...and her mom for that matter, tarnished the amazing character that is Luke. The Luke and Lorelai game of yes and no and finally an ultimatum only to have a kiss at the very end. That's it folks. We endured seven seasons of "will they won't they" only to get a lame conclusion.
As far as Rory is concerned, the whole Barack Obama campaign thing was almost like the end of Remember Me, quick fix to come to a conclusion. While I'm glad she didn't get the New York Times Reston Fellowship, because she needs to fail sometimes, I thought her going on the campaign trail was weird. Before that though, her saying no to Logan's proposal, I actually liked that decision. Graduations are always hard on relationships, and if your boyfriend isn't willing to sacrifice and choose you, you need to choose yourself. They could've done long distance again because Rory needed to keep her career options open: pretty much the only good decision of the last season, which leads to...
3) ...Better Ending PLEASE!
All the Gilmore Girl fans out there are just extremely happy to have more stories and witty quotes to steal with the announcement of the revival movies, but I think we can all agree, we as a fandom deserve a better ending. These beloved (and flawed) characters deserve the ending that Amy Sherman-Palladino planned. Yes, that's right ladies and gents, the originally planned last four words of the series are going to be revealed.
So, altogether I'm completely jazzed about the revival movies. Just so everyone knows, the whole series takes six straight days to watch, so everyone need to stock up on cookie dough, pizza, mini doughnuts, and, of course, coffee, and start catching up. Unfortunately, I work retail, so I'll be binge-watching the movies in between Black Friday weekend shifts.
But altogether, as a fandom, repeat after me: "Wow are we excited about this!"
