The Office. Whenever someone says those two words, fans of that hilarious television show always smile. It is such a unique show that has gotten to be extremely popular among college students since it was put on Netflix. From an outsider's perspective, it may be difficult to understand why college students love the show so much. However, we have fallen in love with the show because it is just plain funny and relatable.
One of the things that makes The Office so great are the characters. Not only are they funny, but also they are so incredibly unique. Dwight Schrute is probably the most unique television character I have ever seen. He is a bit crazy, passionate and gullible. The rivalry between him and Jim Halpert brings life to almost every episode but seeing them become friends towards the end of the show is amazing. Then, of course, there is Michael Scott, the regional manager that everyone in the office loves to hate. No matter how annoying he seems to his employees, he really does care about all of them and that is a lot better than having a boss that hates their employees. Michael is a character that is easy to root for even though he can be clueless and unprofessional at times, because he has good intentions and just wants to be liked by his employees. He is a somewhat broken man who seeks friendship from his employees while he struggles in his personal life. These are things that many people struggle with, and is why viewers sympathize with Michael. Aside from the major characters, the minor characters in the show are what make the show so special. Oscar, Stanley, Angela, Andy, Phyllis, and Daryl are all characters that have such unique, distinct personalities and passions. They form strong bonds with their coworkers and experience many life obstacle that a lot of people can relate to.
Of course, Jim and Pam's relationship is one of the highlights of the show. Their television relationship is as realistic as it gets and that is why the audience loves them so much. They are ordinary, relatable people who fall in love and show viewers that love does not have to be fancy or extravagant. Their relationship is so great because they experience real-life struggles that the average person also experiences in a relationship.
It is ironic that The Office is a show that is supposed to depict how miserable working in an office is, but it actually shows how when you have good coworkers, working in a boring office can actually be somewhat fun. No matter how meaningless your job may seem, you can still form great friendships and relationships with your coworkers. Clearly, the people you work with can make or break your job.
