"I don't have friends."
"Oh my God! I am so offended! I'm friends with you! I love you! We! Are! FRIENDS!!"
Okay. But where were you when I messaged you crying because I was hurt? Oh. Yeah. You were not responding to messages for weeks at a time.
I don't understand why people get so mad when I say I don't have friends. I don't have actual friends because everyone forgets I exist until I say that I don't have friends or they need someone to dump their problems on. It's so stupid that we, as a generation, get so mad because we ignore people.
We treat people like garbage but they're the ones in the wrong when they say they don't have friends. It's their fault that we make them feel alienated. It's their fault that we don't talk to them until it's convenient for us. It can't possibly be our fault that someone feels like they are abandoned.
I say, "our," because, even though I am the one going through this right now, I have done it, too. I am guilty of forgetting to message someone back. I am guilty of not talking to someone until I feel like it.
But, why do people get mad? Why do people get mad at something they caused? People get so mad when you say you're upset and alone. But why? They force their "friends" in to feeling like they don't belong. They force their friend to invite themselves to events. They get mad when their friends want to hangout but not on their terms. They treat their friends like they are nothing but options.
THEN GET MAD WHEN THEIR FRIEND SAYS THAT THEY DON'T HAVE FRIENDS?
What is the point? What is the point in being mad at a situation or an emotion you caused?
Check up on your friends. Don't treat them like an option when you know they are hurting. Answer their texts, even if it's, "Okay. Be careful."
On the other side, if you think someone is an option, don't be mad when they feel lonely and they say something. If you don't answer their texts for weeks at a time, don't get mad when they say they have no one to talk to.
