If You're An Odyssey President, You'll Be Annoyed By These 11 Things, Too

We love our creators and we literally bleed Odyssey, but that doesn't make our jobs easy.

If You're An Odyssey President, You'll Be Annoyed By These 11 Things, Too

Being a part of the leadership roles here at Odyssey is honestly a life changing experience. I've gained a whole lot of knowledge, and patience, and how to run a pretty kick-ass team. However, being a President of anything can have its challenges, and leading a group of college kids can be even more challenging. If you've ever held a leadership role with Odyssey, you'll know these things to be true, too.

1.When your creators don't submit on time.

Giphy

You've had ample time to submit AND ask for an extension, so where's your article??

2. When they ignore GroupMe messages

Giphy

Sorry for ruining your life with my FRIENDSHIP

3. When your creators straight up ghost you

Giphy

No, it's fine, really, I'll just keep thinking about why you hate me and this team for the rest of my life.

4. When they don't attend important meetings

We get it, you're busy. And that's fine! But missing every single one, or not caring to at least attempt to go? That hurts.

5. Or they skip Odyssey Hangouts

Giphy

These aren't required, but we plan them especially FOR our creators, so we can feel more like a family than an organization. So when nobody shows up after we planned months in advance, it hurts our feelings.

6. When they don't respond to call to actions

Giphy

They usually take less than 5 minutes to respond to, anyway, and I KNOW you're on your phone 24/7, so, why?

7. When they ignore weekly emails

Giphy

Because I love crafting the perfectly worded email, adding a ton of colors and fonts to make it pop just to be ignored. Seriously, I love it SO much.

8. When they don't ask for an extension when they're a repeat late submitter

Giphy

Knowing full well they're gonna be late submitting again this week. I see you.

9. When you see them in person and they ignore you

Giphy

Cool, I'll just be in my bedroom, making no noise and pretending I don't exist then.

10. When they ask the wrong people for extensions

I'm the President for a reason, what are you doing?

11. But at the end of the day, you love them like they're your children

Giphy

Even the disobedient ones. Even the ones that don't respond to your cute texts. Because being an Odyssey President means leading a team, and you love the people you're surrounded with. For better or for worse.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
