Top Five Songs To Listen To This Week
Tidal, Mystic Entertainment, Daniel Kim, Rich Youth/Steel Wool Records, Wondaland Productions

Welcome to another week of OPOW! Your weekly playlist will help you start your week with a high note. Some songs will be old and some songs will be new. Overall, these five songs will make you feel good and take the stress away from what you’re going through. Here are the five songs to play for this week:

“Feeling Myself (ft. Beyoncé)” by Nicki Minaj

Although this song was released last year, Minaj’s “Feeling Myself” still gets you energized and ready to party—alone or with a group of friends. “Feeling Myself” is empowering yourself and your self-esteem. It can be for anyone who needs a song to make them feel confident. “Feeling Myself” is one of the songs that will make you confident. If you need a song to give you self-empowerment, Minaj and Beyoncé’s 2014 hit will be your song.

“Brave New World” by Brown Eyed Girls

From their sixth album Basic, Korean girl group Brown Eyed Girls’ “Brave New World” is out-of-this-world. Written by previous Brown Eyed Girls’ collaborators lyricist Kim Eana and composed by Lee Minsoo, the song references Alodus Huxley's novel Brave New World to express curiosity of love. In the beginning, the song has a disco funk beat that sounds like Michael Jackson’s 1979 hit “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough”. Unlike Jackson, this song is bigger than the universe.

“Cliff’s Edge” by Hayley Kiyoko

Known for her single “Girls Like Girls”, Hayley Kiyoko releases an emotional but danceable track from her debut EP This Side Of Paradise, “Cliff’s Edge.” This electronic pop song is about embracing the cliff’s edge and desire to feel that “sea breeze” like she wants to embrace love. Kiyoko’s song captures the moment between two lovers from the beginning to end. Whether you want to dance to this song or listen to its lyrics, “Cliff’s Edge” fits for every moment in your life.

“Going Nowhere” by St. Beauty

Released in the album Wondaland Presents: The Eephus with Janelle Monaé, St. Beauty brings a gorgeous feel of funk in “Going Nowhere”. “Going Nowhere” is about being along with their lover and not going nowhere. St. Beauty’s song captures chills on your arms with its old school funk and contemporary R&B sounds. When you listen to St. Beauty’s “Going Nowhere”, you won’t regret it.

"Pop Danthology 2015 (Part 1 & Part 2)" by Daniel Kim

Now this is the ultimate mash-up! Musician and Youtuber Daniel Kim creates an anthology, or in this case Danthology, of hit songs during each year. Since 2010, Pop Danthology has made incredible mash-up of your favorite songs. This year Kim makes two part songs of this year. Unlike his previous work, Kim separates two differently arranged tracks. He did upload his two new songs on YouTube, but you can listen to both full versions of the songs on his website and soundcloud. If you want to listen to all of 2015’s hit songs in one sound, listen to Part One and Two of Pop Danthology.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
