I started writing for Odyssey in October of 2015. In the time between October and now, I have changed. Maybe not drastically, but I have gained new experiences. I have (not quite officially) changed my major, I have met and grown closer to incredible people and I have grown as a person. Now, I am not trying to get all sappy here... That was not really the point I was going for. My main inspiration for this article was the procrastination that I have when writing these things, but the name of this website, Odyssey, is so honest.
People doubt this site, people joke about this site (i.e. the Twitter account @OdysseyRejects), people criticize this site but most of all, I think people underestimate this site. Myself included.
There are many things you do in life that you question or doubt, writing for Odyssey is among those for me. Most weeks I sit here and think, "If I cannot think of something to write, then why am I doing this?" Most weeks I do not think of an idea of what to write until the very last minute (this article being an example of one I decided to write very last minute). But somehow from somewhere in my head, I get inspiration. Even the weeks where I really think that there is absolutely nothing to write about, I find something to write about. And it has took me this many months to realize that I am thankful for that.
Odyssey pushes me to be creative. I am always thinking about how I want to create more, but I was reluctant to realize I create something new every week.
I have created something new for the past 30-some weeks. That is something to be proud of!
So to all of the Odyssey writers out there questioning this or struggling for an article idea, remember what you are doing. We are all creating something worth sharing each week and that is something to be proud of. Each week we write and share, we grow; in our experiences, in our writing capabilities, in our ability to formulate new ideas, in every aspect of our lives and more. What remains consistent is that we keep writing.
Knowing how to write well is a skill needed in any aspect of the world or workforce. Keep going, keep creating, keep journeying, keep Odyssey-ing.
