Thank You Odyssey

Good-bye. This is my last article that I am writing for Odyssey Online. I still will write in my journal and I may publish a poem here or there. As for my writing career, it will return to just writing for my classes. Through my short time in being a writer, I have learned so much that has helped to a more dynamic person. As a writer I realized that not everyone will like what I have to say. I had to learn that no matter what I am going to ruffle someone’s feathers; these days everyone is a critic. I have also learned that what I do write will always have an effect on people. I used to tell myself, “I don’t care what people think”, but to be a writer you have to care (I hope you have thick skin). I realized that when I write it isn’t just for me. God has given me the opportunities and abilities to write, so I write for Him. My writing should always point people to God and if it doesn’t then I am failing. This writing job has allowed me to dig into topics and politics more than I ever thought I wanted to, but it has help me to understand other aspects of life and answer questions I and others have had. When an opportunity presents itself you sometimes have to go in and try it. Try new things you never know when God will reveal a gift, you never knew you had.

I just want to thank Odyssey Online for giving me this opportunity, as well as my two editors Amanda and Liz. I’m also grateful for Elena and Katy for looking over my work and being constructive critics. I want to thank Alyssa and Tiffany who are the reason I started writing, and Alyssa helped me get this job. I want to thank the Legend too, (for those who don’t know, he is my dad) for always yelling advice at me, and letting me bounce thoughts off him. The Legend has so much knowledge. Most of all I want to thank anyone and everyone who has encouraged me and read my work, but God was the one who made this all possible.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

The Unwritten Rules Of "Talking"

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
