You're probably wondering why I would put this video before my review, but once you've watched it you'll understand why. [Watch Video Now]
"The Cosmonaut decides, the only way to save his sanity, is to fall in love with the sound"
-- Intro
There's something magical about Odesza. There's something about their creative driving force that not only speaks through their music, but amplifies on all creative platforms that they touch. Whether it's incorporating thoughtful rhetoric at the introduction of their latest album, A Moment Apart, or providing a visual backdrop to entice their fans, they've shown time and time again that they put their full hearts and souls into their projects- and this introduction is just skimming the surface.
The story about the Russian astronaut immediately provokes the listener to bring their ear a little closer, turn it up a little more, and really dive into the next 14 tracks. What does it all mean? What do you think it means?
While I realize most reviews express gratitude for each track separately, I have to show my appreciation to A Moment Apart as a whole. I've listened to it over and over, forwards and backwards, and have humbled myself every time. I sang along, I danced along, and I felt along as I was carried through waves of euphoric synths and baths of delicate instrumentals. I became enamored in the sound. I fell in love.
The only thing I really ask of you at the end of listening is.... "Did you fall in love with the sound?"
