Football is an emotional sport and NFL fans can always relate to players who showcase their passion at all times. Some players are must-see on T.V., the football field and on the sidelines - Odell Beckham is a prime example. Whether he is catching a touchdown or getting beat down a net, the Vine potential is relatively high for him.
I have seen players go on tirades before, but a player crying during the third quarter of a close game was just weird. It seems as if some of his teammates just leave him alone when he has those episodes and just stay out of his way. The rest of the team might want to help him stay focused because without him the offense would struggle immensely.
As a Cowboys fan, I want nothing but bad things to happen to the New York Giants, but this situation makes me uncomfortable. I am perfectly fine with players getting upset when the game is not going well. When Dez Bryant went on his tirade against Detroit, I actually felt better about the Cowboys chances in the game. Sure, they lost, but Tony Romo threw two quarterbacks in five minutes and helped ignite the team’s offense. With Beckham however, his antics do not seem to spark the Giants, and they stay in neutral.
Another interesting thing I find from this situation is how Beckham's teammates do not really protect him on the field. He is their best player and only All-Pro player from last year, but they treat him like he is just an annoying little brother. Sure, they might want to give him the cold shoulder to teach him a lesson, but they should also consider putting their pride aside. Nobody on their team has the capability to destroy a game plan like he does, and that still has not happened this year.
One particular comment I found interesting was teammate Eli Manning saying he had to play smarter and I found that interesting. If I am not mistaken, Beckham’s tirade against Washington occurred right after Manning threw a one-handed interception in the red zone. Not excusing Beckham’s behavior, but Manning needs to focus on himself as well in New York’s situation.
The Giants lost again Sunday, but there were not any outbursts from Beckham. He even made up with the kicking net that beat him down last month, so Beckham might be turning a corner. The Giants still lost, but he caught a touchdown, so everything might be back to normal in New Jersey. All that built up rage coincided with his lack of touchdown antics, so Beckham can get back to doing dancing.
