Ode to UGA: A Poem

A semester at Georgia, as told by a first year.

Ode to UGA, my school, my home, my place,

What a ride it's been, and here's some things I've faced.

I've seen the arch, I've been to games, and lived at Jittery Joe's,

I've looked for Hairy Dawg and gone everywhere he goes.

I've pushed my way through lines for buses, food, and books,

I've worn "late to class outfits", and received a couple looks.

I learned the quickest routes, I found my favorite spot,

I even slept in Tate, or gave it my best shot.

I met loads of people, much different from me,

But in the end it's OK, we're all on one team.

I wore red and black and cheered for my school,

I sweated through my clothes, and screamed like a fool.

I walked miles and miles, or thats how it seems,

And after just one semester I fit back in my jeans.

Finals were brutal, I took my best guess,

Goodbye straight-A record, so sad to confess.

My money has vanished, and I'm as broke as they come,

But at least when I'm done here, I will not be dumb.

So thanks for the memories, I'm so ready for more,

I'm glad I took the chance and opened this door.

Poor, stressed, and tired, but I'm alive and well.

Waiting for graduation to ring that chapel bell.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
