Oh! Wall Academic Center,
Is it too early in our relationship to say
That since we have been back at school, you have become the light of my life?
And I am not just talking about the copious natural light
That you let in through your broad and clear windows.
Known to some as The WAC
and others simply as The Wall,
You have come into our lives
And changed them forever.
On the outside you look like just another building
In the quaint, quiet campus of Davidson College.
But you have thoroughly deceived us
With your clever ploy
Making us believe you are comparable to Chambers
When there is truly no contest.
Stepping inside is a magic portal
To another world.
With your modern angles,
Cool colors,
And floor to ceiling windows
You create a calm learning environment,
The likes of which I had never experienced
Until I met you.
No longer will I have to sit through lectures
In the dreary basement of Martin,
Which resembled a dungeon more than a classroom.
Your rooms are so large
That I could not throw a piece of paper
Into the recycling bin on the other side of the room
Even if I tried my best.
Your chairs are more comfortable than any other on campus,
Yet I am so enthralled by your charm
And the interesting equations written on your boards
That I would not dream of falling asleep.
I am honored knowing that I was one of the very first students to ever step foot
In your shiny, new laboratories.
I do not care that the architects gave you six foot ventilation hoods
Instead of the eight foot hoods we were expecting.
You are still perfect to me.
You are as kind as you are beautiful,
With abundant study tables
Carefully placed in your many nooks
So that any student,
Even if they are not there for chemistry,
Can study in the presence of your grace.
Oh! Wall Academic Center
I am saddened with the knowledge
That I only get to spend three short years
Within your pristine form.
And yet, I am glad
For what a glorious three years it will be.
