Ode To Older Siblings

They may be bossy and annoying, but they have your back.

Ode To Older Siblings
Bustle

I grew up with 10 siblings. It can be rough being the youngest, but there are some perks to having nine people making sure you're okay.

1. Getting a ride

Having older siblings means there are more people you can ask when your parents can't give you a ride somewhere. When you were younger, I'm sure that came in handy and now that you are a broke student it's even handier. They may be reluctant, but chances are you can bribe them or beg long enough that they give in.

2. Always having backup

If you're in trouble and you need help, these are the people who will be there in an instant. They always have your back when it really counts.

3. A source for good advice

Wherever you are in your life, they have already been there. They know things that you are just starting to figure out. If you need some advice, they just might have the perfect solution to your problem.

4. There is no fight too big

A sibling is a friend that you will be forced to forgive after every fight. This comes in handy because it means that you can be honest with them-- you can tell them how you really feel, and you can both scream at each other. You will find a way to work it out.

5. A good excuse

You were there for each other when one of you broke something in the house and you covered for each other. You are adults now, and they can be your excuse to get out of awkward holiday dinner conversations. Maybe they even live somewhere that's nice in the winter, so they can be your excuse to travel. And bonus: a free place to stay while you're there!

Appreciate your annoying siblings. You know you love them, and they really are there for you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
