Born and raised in Atlanta Georgia,
Grew up to change the world,
First a Baptist Minister and social activist,
Then he become a civil rights pacifist,
Beginning at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference,
He gave inspirational speeches against segregation and tolerance.
Through his non-violent approach,
He was able to encroach,
Moving into uncharted territory,
MLK told his story,
He had some significant victories,
Brown v Board of Education in 1954,
But he always knew he could achieve more.
He was the reason for the Civil Rights Act of 1964,
But that was not all that was in store,
The Voting Rights Act of 1965,
Yet this just kicked him into overdrive,
Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize,
This did not come as a surprise.
He lived a full and rewarding life,
One that was also full of strife,
Arrested in 1956 to intimidate bus boycotters,
But nothing could stop the persistence of his sons and daughters,
Assassinated by James Earl Ray at the Lorraine Motel,
But his legacy we will not forget to tell,
On this day of Martin Luther King,
I want to thank you for allowing me to do anything.
