Oh, Colorado, we love your fall smells,
We fondly anticipate oversized sweaters and everything PSL.
As I grab my fall leggings and I grab my fall boots,
I look at my weather app and realize it's all a fluke.
50 this morning with a cool fall breeze, but 85 BY NOON??
Why do you do this to me?
I set back my sweater, my leggings a lump on the floor.
Now I grab my sweatshirt, sport shorts and white converse once more.
I sit in my car that is now cool, knowing that once it sits for awhile, it will be sweltering by noon.
"I can't handle this," I softly look up and say, "I'm meant for fall. PSL in still summer just isn't the same."
The aspens are changing and the peaks have their snow, but in the valley we suffer from everything but cold.
I long for no more back sweat, I long for no more summer squeals,
I long to wear one outfit per day, and not shave my legs for weeks upon weeks.
I longingly do homework inside on this day, wishing it was cold so I wouldn't be tempted to go play.
Away from me, summer! Away from us all, we love you in June, but by now, be gone!
Away from me swimsuits, and summer body stress! It is time to layer up and eat more bread!
Oh, Colorado, we do love you so.
Just not when it is September, and you just won't let go.
Please go tell the sun that we have just had enough, it is time to move on and let the bottom half of the world have her fun.
If I still wanted summer I would go to the land down under, but up here where it is high we long for cool rain and thunder.
Oh Colorado, you spontaneous muse, we know in the winter months, you will switch your tune.
It will be 60 in the morning and snowing by noon.
Then in those times, I will grab my boots and tank top too, because you can never make up your mind on what you want to do.
But neither can we because here we still live, in the shade of the great Rockies.
Oh Colorado, I just want be free.
Let it be fall, so I can be me.
