Dear PB&J,
From my very first bite of solid food, up until this day you have always been there for me. Throughout my young years, you helped me make friends. You let me split you in half and share you with that acquaintance on the playground that soon turned into one of my closest friends.
But, you also understood during those years when I had friends who were allergic to you. You were still there for me even though I couldn’t bring you to school for a while because my new friend couldn’t go near you. You fed my addiction to picnics and long bike rides with no destination. PB&J, you were there for the laughs I shared with my family on road trips.
and you were there for as a pick-me-up when I didn’t do so hot on a test at school. Moving into a new school was terrifying. I’m sure you noticed that too. But, I was comforted when I opened that paper bag at lunch time to reveal you as a gift from my Mom. From volleyball to softball games you were there to make sure I was ready to win the game. You gave me the energy to keep on hustling even though we were down by a couple points or a run or two.
You had some pretty great friends yourself! Chocolate chip cookies were pretty cool and I really liked your friends Goldfish. I couldn’t stand celery. Or pastry, he was flaky. I want to apologize for the times I tried to squeeze you into too small plastic bags and the times I dropped you on the gross ground and threw you out. I also want to apologize for those couple of years I switch to ham and cheese, you’re right, I don’t know what I was thinking. Too many days were spent throwing out old ham and moldy cheese. But, PB&J, I can’t thank you enough for all those years and memories you brought to me as I grew up. So, Thank You.
Cheers to the many years in the future we will spend together.
Best,
Emma
