One of my favorite memories from the younger years of grade school is hopping off the school bus and coming home to a snack and an episode of Arthur undeniably airing at 4 p.m. every weekday afternoon. Watching Arthur for so many years, I didn’t care how many times I saw a certain episode, I would still watch all the re-runs. Who am I kidding, I’d gladly plop myself unto a couch right now to watch an episode. Arthur is such a great show. Reflecting back on the episodes, it honestly taught me so many valuable lessons for whatever life will throw at me.
For example, you have an entire episode dedicated to how exciting the library is. If you’re a college student like me, I don’t think exciting might be the right word but the library has definitely become a second home for many. This second home is literally filled with blood, sweat, and tears- well mostly tears- as the heaviest part of the semester hits, swamping everyone with assignments as well as the last round of midterms.
Remember that episode Arthur doesn’t fit into his favorite pant-suit? Yeah, that’s totally me and every other college student trying struggling to reach their beach bod goals by the time summer hits.
The blizzard episode is all too relatable, especially if you live up in the Northeast. Even though Francine is in elementary school, she’s still stuck writing a report while school’s closed and all her friends are out enjoying the time off from school. Snow days in college are a blessing and a curse. Blessing in a sense that you don’t have classes and absolutely will not need be judged for chilling in your pajamas all day. Or most people go out and relive their middle school days by sledding down hills and chucking snowballs at each other. The downside to snow days is that we all have at least one professor who freaks out over lost class time due to the inclement weather and post recorded lectures and additional assignments. Unfortunately, some people, especially science majors, end up hibernating indoors trying to keep up with their course load.
Arthur will always have a place in my heart, no matter how old I am. Thank you to Marc Brown for creating such a relatable aardvark.
