I was talking about this with my friends the other day: the things Millennials find funny are so odd. We grew up around so much technology that it makes sense our humor is connected to memes and vines. Specifically, recently, there has been a surplus of moth memes circulating.
Honestly, I think the moth memes are hilarious. But when I showed my parents what I was laughing at they looked at me like I was an alien. This isn't even the first time something like this has happened.
Most of the time Millennials laugh at things that are just absurd. Why are moths funny? I couldn't tell you. It's such an everyday thing: moths flock to lamps. It's an easy thing to make fun of. There are also so many other things like this that seem so simple, it's not even a joke. Yet, we laugh!
But that's not all there is to what Millenials find funny, another part of it is self-deprecating humor. We love making fun of our appearances, how we're going nowhere in life, or how we'd like to just be in a coma for like a week because it seems like a great time. I couldn't tell you where this dark humor comes from, but I think people keep making jokes about it because it's relatable, as sad as that may be.
Everyone talks about how none of us have money saved, don't know the meaning of hard work, and so many other things. If we have so many people telling us that we're a terrible generation, what reason do we have to think any better of ourselves?
Millennial humor is incredibly weird, there's no dispute. What should be looked at harder is the reason behind why, all around the world, we find comfort in making fun of our outward looks and life problems?
