An Odd Day To Wear Makeup

An Odd Day To Wear Makeup
Stephanie Brackett

For the first time in MONTHS I wore a full-face of make-up (compared to my normal nothing on my face). Foundation, blush, mascara and more are what got put on for a day of hanging outside with my parents, and a lot of animals, but also friends. It all started in knowing that I was spending the day outside in the sun so the foundation that I ended up putting on my face had protection from the sun. So since I put some color on my face I couldn’t leave it without company. It had to take more care then just getting quickly thrown on my face without the finishing touches. I added on top of it some more makeup and then of course sprayed my face with a finishing touch so that it would stay better and longer.

I started my day with my parents, but they weren’t going to be the only ones. The day soon got filled with a lot more people. We took my dad’s truck (that ended up getting a free parking pass) to the Westford 4-H fairgrounds and spent the day around a large number of people that the 3 of us know. At this point in my life a large portion of the people are adults and the smaller portion are still children. But it all started some years ago. I was in 4-H for a little over 10 years and most of it was spent involving horses. I started riding horses when I was 9 and immediately wanted to make that relationship stronger, so I joined a 4-H club that was also accompanied by my riding instructor I just started taking lessons from.

Today, horses are now a strong part of my life, so the rest in a long history. The fairgrounds that we had made it to are where I spent a lot of those years, so my parents and I had got an invitation to attend the fair for the opening ceremonies. Before and after the ceremony, we walked around the fair and made sure we started seeing some of the fair since we wanted to try and see almost all of it anyways. So at one point I realized I wasn’t going to stay clean if I wanted to spend hours there, and by going all over the grounds visiting all the places where the animals were being held. As soon as I walked in I regretted the choice I made in shoes, but I didn’t mind them getting a little bit dirty.

However, I ended up with cow manure on me. For the first time in a while I was wearing shorts outside, and they were a nice pair of shorts, unfortunately though they were what got dirty. They got the cow manure on them during the opening ceremonies parade, which is made up the children involved in the clubs, and also some of their animals. And while this was occurring I noticed one child with a cow, but the cow wasn’t looking very happy about what they were doing. So after a short time of watching the child yank on the cows halter I felt bad, so I went to go help push it a little bit. However, that didn’t help very much, so we ended up deciding it was a waste of our energy. Therefore we just let it continue to be happy about where it was already standing.

I spent the rest of the day around a lot more animals, and different ones. I saw a lot of people and I was glad about having put my make up on after I realized how many people I was seeing for the first time in a while. At the end of the day I was glad I put on the makeup that helped protect me from the sun. It ended up being a hot day and I had spent a lot of my time in the sunlight, and my make up saved me from the sun, but also made me laugh real hard when I realized how long it had been since I put any makeup on like that, but also for what purpose.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
