To preface, all the way up until my freshman year of high school, I wasn't "obsessed" with anything. To my surprise, I learned that lots of people had their "things" that they absolutely loved and that it was weird that I didn't have even one. I realized that all of my friends were right during my birthday when I wanted to have my favorite celebrity give me a shoutout on Twitter, you know, as a young teenager does, and I couldn't think of anyone I liked enough to give me a shoutout.
I know what you're probably thinking: finding a celebrity to love enough that you would want a shoutout from them is definitely not a pressing issue, but it felt like a very important problem to young me. So I decided to, slowly but surely, find something relatable that I cared a lot about so I could go tell my friends all about my new 'thing'.
After watching nearly every episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," I figured that was something I could get into, even though I was a few years late. Surprisingly, what I once thought was just me hopping on the bandwagon of obsessions turned into me religiously watching the reality TV show every Sunday.
I don't necessarily agree with everything the Kardashians do, but I do think they have a lot of redeeming qualities. They've come really far since the beginning of their fame, and now nearly every member of the Kardashian family has a successful line of products.
Despite their profitable brands, they also provide great entertainment and relief to the average-day person.
Two years ago, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris and spoke her true story on the show, including showing signs of her PTSD. It may not be a lot, but the craziness they portray on their reality show can allow you to forget about your seemingly crazy life for an hour.
Several months ago, Kim Kardashian put her fame to work and helped release Alice Marie Johnson from prison by working personally with Donald Trump. Although this came at a time of high controversy surrounding the White House, her activism and proudly spoken opinions have been able to make a huge difference in people's lives.
I have obtained a lot more obsessions with famous people and TV shows, including the great "HGTV" and "Food Network," and whether or not that was a good use of my time is definitely up for debate. Staying up to date, though, with these celebrities and their ridiculous lives is something that has entertained me a lot.
I could definitely tell you the names of every single person within the Kardashian-Jenner family, along with giving a summary of what each member is currently doing with their life, which just goes to show how dedicated I have become to "Keeping Up With The Kardashians." A few years ago I never thought I would say that I proudly stand by my unpopular opinion of loving the Kardashians and all of their craziness, but I do.
I really believe that everyone should have their own guilty pleasure, even if it happens to be a rich and, quite frankly, plastic family.
