Why You, Too, Should Obsess Over 'The Phantom Of The Opera'

What is the obsession for "The Phantom of The Opera," you ask? Well you’ve come to the right person. There are a million and one reasons for loving this great movie, but I’ll only begin to share a few of them with you.

To start off, one of the great things that make any movie great are the actors and actresses in the film. Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, and Minnie Driver are main characters, just to name a few. If you are unfamiliar, you can find Gerard Butler in "300" and "Law Abiding Citizen," Emmy Rossum in "The Day After Tomorrow" and "Poseidon," Patrick Wilson in "The Conjuring" and "The Switch," and Minnie Driver in "Good Will Hunting" and "Big Night". If you are bad with putting names to faces, I can see how you’d read these names and not recognize all of them; however, if you are familiar with popular actors/actresses and you still don’t recognize these names, shame on you!

What's a movie without a plot? Plot is a huge detail that can make or break a movie. "The Phantom of The Opera" is filled with drama, romance, scandal, secrecy, and bravery. The drama comes with a well-known opera singer, Carlotta, being overshadowed by a now, even more liked opera singer, Christine Daaé. Carlotta is forever jealous of being put out of the spotlight, and continues to force her way back on stage into the light, causing an abundance of chaos and rumors. Behind the curtain, a bond begins to reignite between Christine Daaé and Raoul, a handsome and wealthy viscount. They express their feelings for each other all throughout the movie giving that feeling of romance throughout the film. For those of us who enjoy a bit of romance, this film will definitely give you that warm, fuzzy feeling we all crave. Confusion arises when murderous deaths send the characters wondering who the killer could be. Christine suspects, but does not know if, the Phantom and her protector, The Angel of Music, are the same person. The Phantom murders. The Angel of Music comforts. Is it possible they could be the same person? Few really know who the Phantom is and the story of his past. Once that history is brought to life, the reasoning behind his actions become clear, but they are no more acceptable in society than anyone else’s crimes. Christine risks her life and her future with Raoul in order to be face-to-face with the Phantom to confront him, and persuade him to leave the opera house, and his gruesome killings, behind. Raoul fights his way to the Phantom's hideaway with the hopes of rescuing Christine from the Phantom’s grasp. Despite the craziness of the situation, Christine shows kindness and undeserved love to the Phantom, sparking realization in his eyes as to what a monster he has become. Intriguing, right?

In case you had note guessed already, this movie has quite a few components of opera music incorporated throughout the movie. It should be very obvious within the first few minutes of the movie that this is a sing-song movie filled with opera songs. The songs are probably my favorite component of the whole movie; I have all the lyrics memorized! They are filled with so much emotion, not to mention flow easily with the plot of the movie. These songs aren’t just songs, but they help to tell the story. With the use of a vast variety of musical instruments and the props used to compliment, a glorious story will unfold before your very eyes.

Any fashionistas out there? You will also be very intrigued throughout this movie. All the materials used in décor and costumes will blow your mind. Everything looks so authentic and dated, as the film is set in the year 1870. I wish I lived back in that time purely for the clothing and large dresses!

Now, if those aren't reason enough to be utterly and completely in love with the story of "The Phantom and The Opera," the only explanation I have is that you must not have been paying attention to what you were reading. To those of you who haven't even seen the movie, or even heard of the story, I highly recommend that you at least investigate it one time. Just one time; that's all it takes. After that, you'll be hooked! I guarantee it!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
