So, it looks like the prayers have been answered and we're going to (possibly) be getting the Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie. With Director Stephen Daldry in very early talks about directing the film, we are left with a single burning question on our lips. "What's going to happen in the movie?"
Well, I have absolutely no connections to Hollywood, so I can't say. But I can find myself pondering a lot about movie. Above all, "What story is going to be told? Is there a story to even be told?"
Well, the obvious answer is a story sometime in between episodes III and IV, with Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the Jedi Master. I however see a potential problem with this. Story wise and canonically. Obi-Wan spent that time on Tatooine, a desert planet looking after Luke Skywalker before Episode IV occurred. That's a time period of roughly 19 years or so. With this in mind, there is very little wiggle room. That's not to say there isn't a story to be told, but I just don't think it's going to be the one what everyone expects. There isn't going to be a massive lightsaber duel or the galaxy isn't going to be jeopardy at all.
But rather, I think it's going to more smaller scale story line, likely very character driven. A possible story line being Obi-Wan's journey across Tatooine to save Luke from something. With this in mind, I heavily doubt we'll even see a lightsaber appear, given how the character wants to keep such a low profile to protect Luke.
Now, what I've described isn't exactly what we'd expect from a Star Wars film. What the franchise has built itself upon is massive space battles with countless lives in danger. If the Obi-Wan movie goes the route with Ewan McGregor and taking place in between episodes III and IV, it's going to be a very different star wars film. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's probably going to be very refreshing and unique if it's handled correctly.
But still, this is all pure speculation. The director is simply in talks, and nothing has been finalized just yet. But the overall reaction from the internet is clear. We want this movie to happen, Ewan McGregor is open to returning to the character. And if the movie comes out? I'll be among the first to get tickets. But, people just have to realize this is probably going to be a very different Star Wars movie. And that's a probably a good thing.
