A Wonderful Place To Vacation

Leech Lake is one of Minnesota's most popular fishing destinations, it is also one of the largest lakes in Minnesota. For those who do not know, Leech Lake is located just southeast of Bemidji. This lake brings in many fisherman/vacationers every year, and with that amount of people coming into the area, there needs to be a place for them to lodge during their stay. That is where Oak Point Resort comes into the picture for me.

Every Summer for the last five years, I have vacationed up north with my family in the same place, and I couldn't be happier. There have been so many good memories from this resort, and I can thank it all to my wonderful family, and also the owners of the resort, Lee & Laura Nupson. Oak Point Resort is located on 10583 Oak Point Road N.W. Cass Lake, MN 56633, which isn't too far from Walker, MN, where you can go to pick up some groceries or any other necessities such as bait or lures.

When you first arrive you are greeted by a big sign that will let you know you're definitely in the right place. There are several things that you will notice right off the back such as the sand volleyball area, along with the playground, and not to mention the large lodge where you can find an assortment of different things to entertain yourself with in the downtime away from fishing.

When it comes to the cabins, there is a large assortment to choose from. There are some that could hold 2-3 people, while others such as the Reunion Cabin, can accommodate for up to 12. During my first few years here, we had decided to stay in the Wolf Cabin along with my family friends/relatives. It was quite an experience fitting and living in a cabin with 7 other people for a week, but it wasn't a bad one. A majority of my downtime was spent in the lodge playing carpet ball.

For those who do not know what carpet ball is, it is a long 30 foot or so table with raised sides that are fully carpeted. You have one person on each end, and each player gets 5 pool balls. You go back and forth rolling at the cue ball in order to knock the other players balls down. It is a very simplistic game, but I had never heard of it until I came here. I had spent several hours in the lodge just simply rolling a ball back and forth the other player.

In the lodge there is also a big screen TV to watch tv, or you can watch one of the movies off of the shelf that you can also check out and watch in your cabin. Along with that, there is also an assortment of books, board games, crafts, and not to mention everybody's favorite two games, Foosball and Ping Pong.

Enough about being inside, let's talk about what there is to do outside. There are paddle boats and small single person watercrafts that you can rent and take out on the lake. I was prone to hoping on the paddleboat and paddling on out to the platform to catch some sun, or just to get away and enjoy a wonderful view of the lake during sunset. For the young ones, there is a playground with a play set that will help them burn off some of the energy they are so full of. Besides the playground, there are many instances of me seeing a little one just fishing off of the dock and actually catching some little perch or even some bass.

There are many memories that I have made here, and I hope to keep coming back year after year with my family. I'm sure there are things that I didn't remember to mention, but words cannot describe the beauty of this place, and how wonderful it is to stay here. I can only hope that someday in the future, I will get to bring my kids here, and continue to make memories. I hope you will come give it a shot, I was skeptical at first, but this place grows on you.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
