While Fashion Week has wrapped up here in New York City, the undergraduates of New York University are always stylish. This week, I take a look at some of their street style looks (including my own!) and ask NYU female students what they think about the fashion in and around campus.

Spencer Peppet, Tisch Class of 2019, Drama (Experimental Theatre Wing)

Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio

What do you think about the NYU/NYC fashion scene?

"I have kind of a love/hate relationship with it. Coming from Cincinnati, I was the person that was like, 'Oh my God, you're so artsy, you go to thrift stores.' The nice thing about coming here is it doesn't really matter. You can just wear what you want without it being a huge deal. But there's also this culture of putting so much emphasis on what a person's wearing and it's all kind of the same style that that happens around - the super expensive clothing that looks like it was thrifted ... I think it has to do with having the ideal body type for those clothes, and I see a lot more of it here than I did in Cincinnati, partially because more people come here to try and make it as models or whatever, so they have that 'ideal body type'..."

Ella Mann, Tisch Class of 2018, Drama (Stella Adler) and English

Hometown: Fairview, Tennessee

Why did you choose your outfit?

"I'm wearing these overalls because they're the only pants I own that fit my leg to butt to waist ratio, which is weird. And I like this flowy thing because it gives me a dramatic entrance. Sometimes it will gracefully fall off my shoulder and I feel like a character in a movie. I'm wearing a black tank top underneath it because it was clean, and I like these shoes."

Stasia de Tilly-Blaru (a.k.a. "Kowloon Baby"), Gallatin Class of 2019, Social and Political Change with Theatre as a Vehicle

Hometown: Hong Kong

What do you think about the NYU/NYC fashion scene?

"I think definitely NYU students take pride in their fashion. They're trying to be either ahead in the fashion industry or just keeping up with it ... And there are some people who don't care also, which is totally fine. NYU is so, so big to make a generalization, but there are a lot of people who are fashion forward."

Alla Deli, CAS Class of 2018, English Literature

Hometown: Staten Island, New York

Why did you choose your outfit?

"It's my favorite skirt and my favorite shoes. I have what my mom calls a very traditionally feminine style. It's nice and summery. I'm all about the dresses because I don't like my legs, and the heels make my legs look longer."

Hailey Nuthals, Steinhardt Class of 2018, Music Business

Hometown: Wausau, Wisconsin

What do you think about the NYU/NYC fashion scene?

"It's fascinating because in the United States, it's the closest to the center of fashion as we can get. You'll see the NYU students with their 'NYU Athletics' apparel because they just came from practice or people who literally just came from a show at New York Fashion Week. It's really fascinating to see the whole range."

Amanda Morris, Steinhardt/CAS Class of 2018, Journalism and Media, Culture, and Communications

Hometown: Farmington, Connecticut

What is the worst part about your outfit?

"Probably these shoes. They're very uncomfortable even though when I bought them I walked around the store and they seemed comfortable. Every pair of shoes I ever buy does not hold up against New York City. I think it might be worth it because I've always wanted a pair of shoes like this. We'll see..."

Tess Derby, LS Class of 2019, History

Hometown: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Why did you chose your outfit?

"I like it because it reminds me of my all-girls Catholic High School. The skirt is way shorter than I could ever get away with when I went there, so I feel like I'm wearing it ironically or sticking it Mrs. Cost, who was my dean."

Margaret Shuttleworth, CAS Class of 2017, History

Hometown: West Palm Beach, Florida

What do you think about the NYU/NYC fashion scene?

"I haven't really noticed anything special about it. Compared to Florida, where everyone looks like they're in their pajamas all day, I guess it's much better."

Rachel A.G. Gilman, Gallatin Class of 2018, The History and Writing of Erotic Literature

Hometown: Woodstock, New York

Why did you choose your outfit?

"I've been getting a lot of comments lately that my style is very much in line with that of a Nantucket mom, which I'm okay with. I think that just means I have my act a little too together and I'm not ready to give up summer, which I hope this outfit relays."

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
