NYFW Street Style: Lessons from the Greatest

Fashion week each season brings forth not only a preview of what are soon to be the newest trends, but gives the industry’s most notably stylish icons the opportunity to create some new ones. Celebrities, editors, and models are united under one month of pure fashion excitement and present some of their boldest and bravest looks, ending the summer season with a bang. Some may argue that the most exciting part about fashion week isn’t necessarily what’s on the runway, but what’s on the streets…and boy, is that argument strong. When it comes to fashion, these street style stars make their own rules, and we all should take notes.

The Editor

No stranger to Fashion Week, previous Editor-in-Chief and current Instagram Fashion Editor Eva Chen is one of the industry's most beloved power players. Effortlessly embodying two of pre-fall’s most popular fads, Chen struts to her next show in a Pamplemousse slip dress and Louis Vuitton flatforms.

The It Girl

When it comes to street style, some people just don’tget it wrong. Olivia Palermo is one of those people. The former reality star and full-time fashionista put several fall trends on display during NYFW this season with a monochromatic look one day and feathered jeans and print mixing the next. Palermo’s subtle sophistication never fails.

The Celebrity

A street-style legend like Solange knows exactly how to play it when it comes to Fashion Week street style. The trendy musician has an aesthetic that can be described as bohemian yet feminine—and bold to the point of no return. With pale neutrals and high-waisted denim, her NYFW street style was the perfect transition from summer to fall dressing. #NailedIt.

The Off Duty Model

Between hair and makeup for back-to-back shows, it’s unreal how models can still manage to be the chicest of them all—even off of the runway. Fashion favorite Taylor Hill opted for a pair of black sneakers, leather cutout leggings, and a flannel tied around the waist which combined minimalism with androgyny for an effortless off-duty street look.

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
