You Know You're A Nursing Major When...

If you've chosen the glorious career path of nursing, you know just how hard it is. You understand the late nights of studying, the lack of spare time, and the perpetual state of stress and anxiety. Other people just can't fathom the nursing major problems.

1. You can't talk about your day with anybody who isn't in the medical field.

It doesn't matter which class or clinical you're discussing, the things you say are probably too disgusting or complicated for other people to understand. For instance, if you took care of a C.Diff patient at the hospital one day, your family might not appreciate it so much if you talk about it at the dinner table.

2. You have a hard time being friends with people who aren't nursing majors.

Other people don't get the nursing school lifestyle of no sleep, constant studying, and frequent panic attacks. We also don't get much time to go out and make friends with people who aren't also nursing majors. It's an exclusive club and once you're in, you're in for life.

3. No matter what conversation you're in, the topic somehow ends up on nursing every single time.

"So, what did you do yesterday?"

"I went to the park and my cousin dug a hole in the sand that was about the same size as the bed sore my comatose patient had at the hospital the other day."

4. You celebrate any passing grade.

Literally, anything that is a passing grade. Nursing school is where honors students begin to hope for a C. The question after tests or assignments is, "How did you do?" and the answer most people give is, "Well, I passed." High five to the bare minimum.

5. You are always skeptical of "a day off."

That's the face of someone who has no idea how to have fun. Whether it's the weekend or a school holiday, there is always that feeling of forgetting something. The "too good to be true" moment of freedom. There are no breaks in nursing school. And if you think you have one, you're already falling behind.

6. You love your decision and completely regret it all at the same time.

Nursing school is hard. Probably the hardest thing we will ever do in our lives, other than being an actual nurse. The days are long and the sleep is short. You feel wrong more times than you feel right. You're exhausted and stressed out and every single day you wonder why you didn't choose an easier major. Then you remember that being a nurse and devoting your life to helping other people is what puts the fire in your soul. So you kick, scream, complain, and do it all over again tomorrow because you love it and you wouldn't change it for the world.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
