Why I Chose to Pursue a Career in Nursing

My college experience so far has been a roller coaster. I can't express how long and emotional it has been to figure out what I truly want to do in life. It's never an easy question, you have been asked it since you were in kindergarten... "What do you want to be when you grow up", now back then it was easy, it was pretty much either an astronaut, firefighter or veterinarian, that's all kids knew at the time. But as you got older that question because more serious, especially as a junior/senior in high school. Some students were pretty lucky because they knew exactly what end goal they wanted, but for me? Nope, I was as lost as it gets. I did what was best for me at that time and went to community college, but I still had no idea what I wanted to do. I was back and forth from health care to criminal justice to every possible major there is. It wasn't until my second year of college that I finally saw some clarity.

I spent a lot of my time around people who were involved with my local fire department and they encouraged me to go to EMT school, so I thought, why not? I registered for the class and those 6 months gave me an outlook on health care in a pre-hospital setting. The idea of patient care in a fast pace setting intrigued me. I learned more than I ever thought I would and met some of my best friends to this date. After I graduated from EMT school, I knew that health care is where I belong but that wasn't the one thing that made it certain, my grandmother also played a huge part. In August of 2019, she had a stroke that affected her ability to do everyday things, such as feeding and dressing herself. I spent weekends helping her when her home health aid wasn't available. I did everything possible, from helping her get up in the morning and all ready to feeding her favorite breakfast. That experience truly made me realize my love for helping people at their worst and doing everything I can to keep them comfortable and happy.

At the age of 21, I have finally got into an amazing University where I will be pursing Nursing and I am extremely excited. Nursing is what I was made to do and every bone in my body agrees. It was and will be one of the longest and hardest journeys I will have to go through but the end goal is what makes it worth it. If I could go back and do it all over again, I don't think I would. I have grown as a woman and have learned things the hard way but that is what makes me different than everyone else. I will be the oldest in some of my classes and that is okay because I am more mature than I have ever been and I am ready to take the hardest journey to become the best nurse possible.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

College is a great place to meet people, especially through Greek life. If you look closely at sororities, you'll quickly see there are many different types of girls you will meet.

1. The Legacy.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
