College is a busy time. No matter your school or major, it is probably packed with friends, schoolwork, a job, naptime, clubs, and many other things. It can be really hard to find time for everything and actually enjoy what you are doing. It’s easy to try to multi-task but you may find yourself easily overwhelmed. Despite all of that, being present in each aspect of life is key to de-stressing and actually enjoying every moment.
As a type A person, I enjoy organizing things, planning, and taking charge. However that also includes taking on many things at once. Other people tend to go with the flow and not prepare for anything. Which usually ends up resulting in a pile of a lot to do and little time to do it.
Either way, slow down and spend time enjoying the moment. After almost 2 years of college the moments I enjoyed the most and the times I was least stressful was when I slowed down to be present.
Whatever you are doing, let your mind be present where your body is.
Don’t think about everything else going on for your day or week. Whether it's homework, hanging out with friends, sitting in class, or working on the job. With all these things, put all your effort and thought while you are there. Don’t scroll Facebook in class. Don’t constantly be on your phone while you’re with friends. Put away the distractions while you do your homework.
The human mind is an amazingly intricate creation. I thank God for the abilities I have and the extraordinary things my mind and body can do. However, multi-tasking is only so beneficial. When it comes down to it, focusing on one thing at a time brings more success and efficiency.
So college students, as you spend your four years running through life, studying, and getting far less sleep than needed, slow down and be fully present in the moment.
