Why You Shouldn't Forget To Call Your Grandparents While You Are Away At College
Hallie Hughes

Since I was little, my grandparents have always had a huge place in my heart. They have always showered me with love and encouragement. They have had a huge impact on me that made me who I am today. They would always tell me about the fundamental parts of life: how I should approach this and how to be a respectable young lady. They made me realize how important it is to be someone in this world. My grandparents were the light to my darkness. They never failed to tell me how much I mean to them in every visit I had with them. I knew I mattered because of them. I want to make them proud. I have been close with my grandparents since I was born, and now that I’m in college, I forget to simply call them to ask them if they are okay.

I know my grandparents know I’m busy, but I know they are dying to hear from me. They want to hear all about school, the events, and simply how you are doing. They want to know you are doing fine and making something out of yourself. Like your parents, your grandparents just want to see you succeed. They know you are special and want the world to see it. They are you grandparents, they just want to hear your voice every now and again. They are older, they still want someone to check in on them to see how they are doing. My grandparents mean the world to me and I know I should take the time out of my busy life to call them.

When I think about my grandparents I think about their smiling faces and how cheerful they always are. My grandparents are my everything and I am truly sad I don’t get to see them now that I’m off to college. I remember all the memories I have with them that I will cherish for the rest of my life. They would do anything for me.

They are probably worried sick about you and praying for you every night; grandparents always worry. Before I left my grandparents told me to never forget who I am. That was the best advice I have ever received going into college. I also shouldn’t forfeit the people who made me who I am today like my grandparents. I do not want them to forget how much they mean to me and how much impact they have had on my life. If your grandparents are like mine, you need to realize how much they have done and will do for you. They love you and always want to hear from you. They want to know the good and bad with your life. They are getting older but you can keep them young with your stories. Your grandparents are your biggest fans. They have gone through all parts of life and want to make sure you’re on the right path. It is so important to call your grandparents for so many reasons. Never forget what they have done for you and where you come from. Do not forget the people who will seriously do anything for your happiness. Don’t forget they just want hear from you and will listen to anything you want to tell them. I know life can get crazy but a phone call to your grandparents should always make it in your priorities more often.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
