It is done. For better or for worse, Donald Trump is going to be our president for the next four years. It doesn’t matter if you voted for him or not, it’s time to come together as a country again. It doesn't help when everyone takes to social media saying that they are not going to acknowledge him as our president, because even if you don't like it, if you live in the United States then he is your president. This election has polarized our country even more than it was before, and that is not what we needed, now more than ever we need to pray for the future of the United States and for Donald Trump to lead us in the right direction.
Walking around campus this past week, I have been able to see the weight that this election has put on everyone including myself, but it needs to be put to rest. There is nothing we can do now besides accept who our future president is going to be and make peace with it. Stressing ourselves out about what may or may not happen when Trump sits down in the oval office in January is not going to change a thing. What we and have to do is continue to live our lives as usual and encourage people who are taking this election to heart. If you voted for him, awesome, congrats, and if you didn’t, then stay calm. Keep in mind that there are checks and balances, and that Trump is not the only one in the White House, in fact there are literally thousands who work with the president. Not all of them can be crazy, and I am sure that not all of them want to build a wall.
Donald Trump is not going to become a dictator, and there is no reason to freak out and declare to Facebook that you’re moving to Canada. All that does is hype everyone up even more, and right now is the time to encourage and reassure each other that he was chosen as president for a reason. Yes, he has said a ton of absurd things throughout the election, but we can only hope that those things were just him trying to appeal to hardcore republicans and that he will settle down. We also need to remember that although the media created this scary image of him, everything awful that he has ever done has now come out, because that is what happens in presidential campaigns. Each side digs deep to find the worst dirt they possibly can and horrible things came out about both candidates. I have hope that he really does want to improve our country and make it great again. He left his business empire to run for president, spent tons of money, and put in lots of work, if he didn’t care about our country I don’t think he would've left what he had. I have never been a huge fan of him, but I am not scared of him, and no one should be.
