November 8th Can't Come Soon Enough

This election has been tiresome. It has shaken this country to the core and has divided us in more ways than one. This election has thrust us back years and has shown us that there is still a racial divide and the patriarchal society we thought was gone is rearing its ugly head. Whether you're a democrat or a republican, this election should scare you.

I believe that this Tuesday we, as a country, will do the right thing and will elect Hillary Clinton as our first female president. This election is not about politics anymore. It transcends party lines. This is about protecting our democracy and our right to live in a country where everyone is free to be who they are and realize their dreams regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. With a Trump presidency, that is not possible. While I want to plead with all of the republicans who plan on voting for Trump, I can't. I can't narrow my argument down even if I try.

It's not one issue, not one scandal, but rather the entirety of the Trump campaign. Trump has disrespected everyone. If you are a sane and a decent human being, you should be offended. You should be disgusted at the thought of Trump being your Commander in Chief. Throughout his campaign, Trump, his surrogates, and his followers have continued to undermine the very pillars of our democracy that are so essential to continue with a healthy democratic society. He has done it without regard for us or our country.

On November 8th, we have the choice to pick between a real presidential candidate or a dangerous demogogue. Every election is described as the most important election in a generation, but I truly believe this time it really is. This election will decide if our country has a future. You will be voting for our future and it can only go one of two ways. Trump and his base have continually attacked the constitution and twisted it in their favor and if that’s not enough for you to vote on the right side of history, I don’t know what is.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
