The paradox of normality is one that subjectively occurs and is prominent in the era of modernity. Many liberal ideas floating around to idealize an altruistic society seems positively active towards progressive trends, but when an idea takes such extreme measures, individualism takes over and breathes for the free thinker. Ideas become limited based on the risk of being normal. Of course, the status quo is dynamic throughout culture. So. Now that normality is not envied, is "normal" even tangible? Idiosyncrasies becoming idolized and expressed on social platforms are the only way we identify with what others want us to perceive.
Be different. Such a generalized saying with such an exclusive meaning. Not everyone can be different without whatever is being considered different becoming normal. Not everyone should be different. Naturally, the human race is genetically so diverse, similarity is unattainable, so why would one go out of their way to be different for any other reason than to merely seek attention. Free thinking typically implies thinking outside of the box, but if one spends their whole life looking for a way outside of the box, they miss what is hiding in the corner of the box.
Similarly, pushing an idea or an aesthetic on social media to acquire self- assurance or support among your online relations does not liberate you from a restricted mindset but limits your own thought based on your own follower's subjectivity. Not free at all really. The one thing keeping you from an original thought is the yearning for an eccentric image. One which no one cares about really.
