Every girl has seen the romance between Ali and Noah, in The Notebook. We've been envious of it, and in search of it. And for many of us it provided high expectations of finding love in Charleston....but we didn't find it.
I'm not going to point fingers at how many times you have replayed the film, or how many boxes of tissues you went through. However, I'm going to guess for the girl population, the majority of you fell in love with Noah. His face, his character, his motivation, his love, his everything. But don't worry girls, because Ali found Noah in Charleston so you will too, right?
Wrong. The film is created from Nicholas Sparks' love story ... We all know what this means - it will either be a huge romantic love story that would never actually happen, or it's a slightly believable love story that will only end up in a tragedy. Basically, Nicholas Sparks has ruined girls, but The Notebook really takes the cake on this one!
Number One: Lets just start at the beginning of Noah's romantic gestures. Noah dangling himself from a giant Ferris Wheel until Ali agrees to go on a date with him is romantic right? No Girls. If a boy threatens you to go on a date with him, you better run, and fast. That is the first sign that there is something seriously wrong with him!
Number Two: A boy taking you to lay in the Middle of King Street in the night is a total dream come true right? Again no. If a boy takes you to lay in the middle of a busy street in the dark it only means one thing - he wants you dead. Do not mistake this attempt at murder for a romantical act.
Number Three: Noah writes Ali 365 letters in hope of receiving a reply from her. This gives girls the hope they will indeed answer your text, or the second, or third one you send. And just because Noah wrote Ali so much, by no means hints at the idea of you even getting ONE text the morning after. Move on.
Number Four: So remember how Ali described her dream house to Noah? Then surprise even though he hadn't heard from her in years, and she was engaged by now, he not ONLY remembered what it would look like, but then built it. I'm just going to tell you right now that in real life- he wouldn't remember, and if he did it wouldn't build your dream house hoping you'd return again one day.
Number Five: Let me just crush your dreams a little more. Your first love who you've had no contact with in numerous years, probably will not still be in love and waiting for you when you decide your fiance may not be the one. Chances are he probably moved on.
Number Six: Now lets remember back to when Noah said, " tell me what you want, whatever you want I'll be that for you." Common, we all know boys do what they want, when they want.
Number Seven: Lastly, Noah wrote Ali a book about their love story, and spent everyday with her until death trying to get her to remember him. I'm just going to say this - if someone is writing a book about your love story and shows you it in about 50 years, I'll be shocked.
So thank you to Nicholas Sparks for creating these romantic fantasy tales for us girls to daydream over. And thank you for our disappointment when our turn never comes.....
