Dear Future Self

A little friendly reminder.

Dear Future Self,

We always look back on our younger years as the good times, without a single worry in the world, except which toy we would play with next. We lived each day with everything taken care of by our parents.

As we grow up, our parents are still by our sides. Most of us do not have to worry about bills yet and our moms still cook us our dinner a majority of the time. Our only worry is about passing our next Calculus test or getting our license.

We do not know what the future holds for us. We only know that we can mold it to fit our best interests and hope everything works out. As we start to grow older, we realize that we have more responsibilities, more independence and our parents are not around as much as they used to be.

We start realizing what we had, and how amazing it was, how easy life really was. And then we start getting scared.

But future self, I am here to tell you that everything will be okay. I still have complete faith in you. You have done so well so far! Even if you are a little scared right now, a little depressed, a little stressed out, you have been through so much before. This will be a breeze.

Even if you are regretting some decisions, future self, I want you to know that I will always be proud of you. Everyone makes mistakes, there is no avoiding that. What is most important is that you realize your mistakes and you can stop them from happening again. I think that is pretty incredible.

Future self, if you ever EVER feel self conscious, I want you to know that you are beautiful in many eyes. I know it may not seem that way when you wake up in the morning with makeup smeared across your eyes with a wicked hangover, but please believe me. I can promise that you will have so many days filled with soaring self confidence and, if you have not already, you will find that special someone who will make you believe it.

Speaking of special ones, do not freak out if you have not found one yet. Your time will come and when it does, it will be the most magical moment, and I am so excited for you! Please do not give up. I know love may seem impossible, it seems impossible for me now. I can only imagine what it is like for you. But I know they are coming. And they will make you feel wonderful in every way.

Future self, I cannot stress strongly enough how proud I am of you. I love you so much. You grew up to be an absolutely phenomenal person. I am so excited to see where we will go next. You got this! Never forget you are worth more than anyone can afford. Please take care of yourself.

Love,

Your Younger Self

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
