Oh, syllabus week. Unless you are one of the few unlucky people who get homework on the first day, syllabus week is arguably the best part of college. You are back in your college town, but still have plenty of time to go to pool parties, nap, or just goof off.
Now that this glorious week is over, I just want to give this year's freshmen a word of advice. College will get much much harder. There will be days when you will have to choose between eating dinner and sleeping because you know if you don't there is no chance your assignments will get done.
I was one of the naive freshmen who thought college would be the same as high school, and I had a rude awakening. It is a struggle, but it can also be some of the best years of your life. Even though it sounds overwhelming, staying up all night studying with your classmates will give you a bond that you can't get at an all-night frat party.
All this being said, there are a few things you can do to make sure you get a good start to this semester.
Getting organized now rather than later will help you more than you realize.
If you stay organized, it will be a lot easier to write that last minute paper than if you can't find any of your notes.
Go to class.
Even if you don't want to. Even if you're hungover. Even if it's raining. Having your own notes makes it so much easier to do well.
If you have a huge lecture hall, meet your professors.
It can mean the difference between them helping you out if you are on the verge of a better grade, or meeting with you to help answer questions before a test.
Join things.
Clubs, study groups, etc. Leaving your time at school feeling like you missed out and didn't meet people would be super disappointing.
Hopefully, this year's freshman class is already off to a good start. Welcome to the Pack!
