To My Childhood Best Friend

Even though I do not see you too often, I know you are always there for me, and the same goes towards you.

Let's face it, the primary reason we met was because of our parents. They were best friends, and they had the vision that we were going to be as well. And they were absolutely correct! Some of my favorite childhood memories are the ones with you. When we were kids, we were always the crazy ones running around the house like complete maniacs, playing hide and seek with our cats, and at times, driving our parents absolutely crazy, with our endless energy.

The day I found out you guys were moving to the other side of the state was by far one of the hardest days of my life. You were my best friend, and I had no idea how life was going to go on without you. I had spent a decent amount of time crying, wondering what life was going to be like from now on because having you as a best friend was all that I knew. In that time frame, there were a few times you guys came out for visits, which were again, some of my most favorite memories. It was like you never left because we bounced right back to where we left off, just about every time you came out.

A couple years later, we were in the fourth grade, and I had heard some of my classmates discuss how there's a new girl at the school. I had no idea that was you until I actually saw you because our parents decided to keep it a surprise that you guys were moving back. Towards the end of that school year, our bond was stronger than ever. I remember us, with a couple of our other friends singing and dancing to Hannah Montana for the school talent show. Later on, we also decided that we were going to make an attempt at having careers as YouTube stars, which we both know that crashed and burned at the surface.

Even though our attempted YouTube career was a disaster, at least we were good at sports. From softball to soccer and basketball, we were a dynamic duo! In soccer, I remember us being the primary scorers for the majority of the teams we played on, and for softball you had the outfield covered, and I was strong in the infield. I will also never forget those moments when we would vent about our middle school "boyfriends", or at least I think that's what we called them back in the day.

Another couple years had passed, and just as everything seemed to be going perfect, we received the news that you were moving again, back to the other side of the state. I had remembered how much that hurt last time, but I knew that no matter what had happened, you were always going to be one of my best friends. You still managed to make my sweet sixteen party, which meant the world to me, more than you will ever fully know. Even though we do not see each other too often anymore, I just want you to know you have been one of the greatest things that have ever happened to me. I am so proud of you for everything you have accomplished, and I just want to say thank you, I love you and I hope I get to see you again soon!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
