You Are Not Alone

We Have a Constant Companion

13
You Are Not Alone
Megan Greer
"I have made you, I will carry you, I will sustain you, and I will rescue you." Isaiah 46:4

As I have gotten older, I have realized more and more that each and every one of us struggles with feeling alone. For some it happens much more often, for some no one ever knows that they are struggling, but we all battle with this issue at some point in our lives. Here's the thing: you are not alone.

You are never alone. When we were sent to this Earth, we were given a constant companion in the Holy Spirit. He guides us and protects us, and will never lead us astray. Even in times when we are being disobedient, our God listens to us and empathizes with us because He knows our pain and because he loves us so immensely. He has promised us that He will never leave our side, and He carries out that promise daily, even if we don't see it. He is there when we sleep, when we cry, even when we push Him away because we lose faith or simply because we feel unworthy of his presence. His mercy and the way it works is such a beautiful thing.

"Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her." Luke 1:45

When we remember and trust that He is there for us, we are that much more blessed because in those times, we are listening for Him and His guidance and are better able to both hear and understand. In those times, it is simpler for Him to comfort us and consequently often allows for miracles as He heals our minds, our hearts, sometimes even our bodies.

Once we realize that He is always there and that we truly never are alone, we are so much more capable of becoming who He intended us to be. He is able to push us and guide us to the successes and blessings He has set out for us. He is able to teach us more about who we are and what we are destined to become. We can also then be used to help others struggling on similar paths, to help bring them to the light, and to help them realize that someone is there for them.

"As you draw nearer to the Lord, He will guide you to become the best version of yourself." -Elder M. Russell Ballard

If you ever begin to feel alone, depressed, unloved, and even when you are happy, and surrounded by good people, remember your constant companion. Remember that He never leaves your side, whether you are at your worst or your best because He created you, He knows you, He forgives you, and most importantly, He loves you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
