I'm Not Your Average Girl

Not every girl wants to be a princess.

I'm Not Your Average Girl
Heather Andrews

Growing up, I never really fit in with all of the other girls. There was always something different about me, and I didn’t realize what it was until I got a little bit older. I’m not your average girl and I am OK with that.

I know my sports and don’t need to use Google to keep the conversation going. I can talk about baseball, football, or basketball all night long and never get bored. I helped my dad coach baseball for eight years and basketball for five. You can find me in front of the TV cheering on the Washington Nationals, Virginia Cavaliers, Clemson, the Dallas Cowboys, and whoever is playing the Redskins.

Thanks to my brother, I know a little bit about fishing. I know how to bait a hook, and I’m not afraid to do it either. I will willingly bait your hook if you need the help. And though I have never had much luck when it comes to fishing (I usually just catch turtles and branches), there is something peaceful about being down by the river casting lines.

Guns are my best friend. The very first time I had ever shot a gun I hit dead center on the target. That was the moment that I knew I was meant to love guns. I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment and will defend my right to carry any day of the week.

I know quite a bit about cars and trucks. I can change the oil in a vehicle, and I know how to change a tire. My brother is quite the little mechanic, so I have learned a lot by watching him over the years. I won’t go into detail, because I could go on forever about trucks, but I’m your girl if you ever need opinions on trucks. (p.s. bowtie or die, just so we’re clear).

I wear t-shirts, jeans, and sweatpants most of the time. Sometimes I even raid my brother’s closet to find a shirt. I do not care about ‘looking cute’ every day of the week, and I wear little to no makeup. I will never fill in my eyebrows no matter how many times I get lectured about it, and I’m perfectly happy with throwing my hair up into a ponytail every day. However, I can still transform into that ‘girly girl’ and rock the crop top and heels on a Friday night when necessary, but I can definitely pull off a dress and some Chuck’s just as good.

Fancy restaurants are nice and all, but I prefer Buffalo Wild Wings, McDonald’s, or any place that has a great burger. I’m not one to order a salad, like ever. I’m not afraid to eat in front of people. I will order a cheeseburger and fries and eat it all and then probably ask for your fries, too. I can down an entire pizza by myself, and when eating tacos you have to eat at least 3 or what’s the point?

I’m not afraid to get dirty. I would rather be outside. I would much rather ride four-wheelers and dirt bikes than have a fancy horse-drawn carriage. I can rock a farmer’s tan. I would rather get a tan from kayaking the river than laying out by the pool all day. I could spend hours in the woods exploring and looking for signs of deer. I’ve contemplated swerving off of the road to strike a big buck with my car more times than I should have (at least seven times).

I cuss way more than any female should, and I say ‘dude’ all of the time. I’m not afraid of a little trash talk, and more than likely I’ll be the one to initiate it. I am strong and capable of taking care of myself, and I could kick your ass if I needed to. I would much rather have a cold Coors Light or a shot of Jim Beam over some fruity little cocktail. Don’t challenge me to video games, because I can kick your ass. I’m not picky about things. I will always choose action movies over chick flicks. And shopping is not my thing, and I definitely need a couple shots after a day of forced shopping with “the girls.”

I am who I am, and I am perfectly happy with that. I am proud to be ‘one of the guys.’

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
