12 Not-So-Basic Fall Fashion Tips

This past week, as I rummaged through my closet, trying to find the perfect thing to wear in this obscure, bipolar weather, I realized that I need to up my fall fashion game.

Mind you, I'm very basic, so I tend to fall for the common trends, but there are a few ways to spice them up!

1. Color scheme

It seems that this season has been taken over by four colors: burgundy, olive green, rusty orange, and gold. It could be because of their dark, earthy undertones, or the fact that they remind us of the changing leaves, or both! All I know is, if you accessorize with these colors in mind, you'll definitely be in fashion.

2. Flannels

Let's start with the most basic fall accessory out there – the flannel. You can never go wrong with a flannel. My suggestion to spice up your wardrobe is to buy one a couple sizes bigger than your regular size; you'll thank me later.

This flannel is currently being sold at H&M for $30!

3. Sweaters

A fall sweater should be two things: chunky and off-the-shoulder. It's the right kind of warm and comfy that'll make you never want to take it off.

The pictured sweater can be found here for less than $20!

4. Sweater dresses

If you want to throw a bit of girly flare into your daily fall routine, I would suggest investing in a sweater dress. Pair it with some thigh-high socks and a pair of booties, and you'll have a great way to fight the brisk fall air while still looking cute.

You can find this sweater dress at Forever 21 for less than $25!

5. Jeans

If you're not a dress kind of person, jeans are another good option. If you're going to go for these, I think fall calls for dark rinse, possibly even black or dark grey, jeans. A nice little detail is rips. Sure, it's a little chillier when fall rolls around, but in the name of fashion, it's worth it.

These bad boys are currently being sold at American Eagle for $60.

6. Leggings

Another basic staple in everyone's closet: leggings. There isn't much to say about them except that they are the greatest piece of clothing you will ever own. If you want a bit of variety among the bajillion pairs that I'm sure you own, think about investing in some fleece-lined leggings; they're perfect for fall weather!

Target has great-quality leggings for just $18!

7. Jackets

Of course, the classic leather jacket will probably never go out of style, and it is definitely a fall must-have, but another kind of jacket that has been gaining a lot of popularity is the bomber jacket. They're an awesome way to be a little bit different while still being basic AF (because isn't that what we all want?).

If you're interested in getting a bomber jacket, possibly olive, this one is being sold at Uniqlo for $50. Though it seems pricey, it pays to invest in a jacket, I promise.

8. Boots

Let's face it – combat boots and tall rider boots will always be fall trends. If you want to step up (heh get it?) your shoe game, I would lean towards a pair of heeled booties. These can dress up or dress down an outfit, depending on the look you're going for. Their versatility is a definite game changer.

Charlotte Russe has these gorgeous taupe booties on sale for $25!

9. Knitted beanies

Beanies are one of those accessories that you fear you can't rock but you own one, or a bunch, anyway because they're too cute to pass up. Personally, a pom-pom at the top is always a deal maker for me.

You can purchase this beanie for $9.99 (shipping not included) from my personal site, Claudine's Corner, on Instagram! (PS- please ignore the Snapchat caption, I tend to forget to save the photo before writing one.)

10. Scarves

What better item to complement a pair of heeled booties and a knitted beanie than a chunky scarf?! Seriously, though, these are probably my favorite accessory to style my outfits during the Fall seasons. They're comfy, cute, and cozy – three necessary C's in life, wouldn't you agree?

You can find this scarf on Etsy for $23 or you can shop through my store (linked above) for chunky scarves for just $16.99!

11. Purses

I guarantee you have one too many satchels in your purse collection, and you're trying to find a new bag to carry all your miscellaneous things around with you. However, I've been noticing more people rocking the backpack purse, and I think it could seriously tie together any and every outfit you may be planning to wear this autumn!

This faux leather backpack purse is currently being sold at Forever 21 for less than $30!

12. Dark lips

Needless to say, though makeup is not a required part of an outfit, it can add to your style and help make a statement. If the statement you wish to make is "I'm Fall AF," try to go for a bold, dark lip color. It can be a bit scary at first, but I'm sure you'll fall in love with the look and rock it all season long.

The Nyx Simply Vamp Lip Cream can be found at your local Target, Ulta, or another drug store that sells Nyx products. It's also on their website for $6.50 (I've personally used Bewitching before, and it's absolutely amazing. 10/10 would recommend)!

Grab your PSL and get stylin', friends.

Here's to my favorite season~ Happy Autumn!

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
