Not My President

My thoughts and feelings after the Inauguration, and in light of "Mr. President's" actions so far.

This year's inauguration of the man who is now considered to be America's president means a lot of different things for a lot of the Americans living in this country. But, despite the ceremony and utter travesty surrounding that entire event, this man is not my president and never will be.

Let me make myself clear, I will never acknowledge Donald Trump as someone who should be in power over anyone. He is a tyrant in a thinly veiled disguise that has highlighted the disgusting and rampant bigotry that threatens the very fabric of my identity and the life I hope to carve out for myself some day. I did not vote for this man who will inevitably run this country in the same way that he runs his businesses, which is to say terribly and into the ground. As an American adult, I did not play into any part of Donald Trump's victory and therefore reject anyone who supports this mockery of American democracy.

I have spent years being spoon fed the narrative that America is the leader of the free world and is ultimately the largest pillar of democratic values. This is a violent falsehood that has been clearly shown by the leader our own system elected by ignoring the people. I refuse to entertain respectability politics any more. I will not be silent in order to "save face" or make sure that the racist, homophobic, and xenophobic fascist neo-nazis that support the new president feel less threatened.

So, if anyone is interested in knowing what democracy looks like, I implore you to open your eyes. It's those people screaming for their rights in the streets. It's those people taking to social media to denounce the events taking place. It's those people who are using any type of platform they have in order to speak out and show the absolute hatred towards the path our nation is taking. And it is even this piece of writing that you have just read.

"Mr. President," and I do say that with the utmost sarcasm and disrespect, I implore you to listen to the millions of constituents who are begging to be treated as human beings and are screaming for any type of rights and run this country with some type of sense for the next four years. And, do us all a favor, do NOT run again in 2020.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
