I Am Now In College And I Realized That There Are 7 Things I Will Never Miss From High School

Worst four years of my life.

I Am Now In College And I Realized That There Are 7 Things I Will Never Miss From High School

After being in college for two years now, I have noticed that college is so much better than high school and there are so many things from high school that I am glad to leave in the past. I have realized that college students are a lot more mature than high school students, but there are some people who are stuck in high school. Here are the things I do not miss.

1. The gossip/rumors

For some reason, in high school, everyone feels the need to spread rumors and make up stories about other people that are not usually true. It seems to be the only thing to make high school somewhat exciting, but it ends up hurting other people.

2. The judgment

There is so much pressure to fit in and to be liked by your peers. If you do something out of the ordinary or even wear a risky outfit, everyone judges you for it and will probably be talking about the thing you did or what you wore for weeks.

3. Going to class seven days a week

In college you can set your schedule to where you only have classes two or three times a week. You can also choose your class times, so you can have a lunch break or take a nap in between lectures. Whereas in high school you have class seven days a week from 8am-3pm.

4. The stress of getting good grades to get into college

In high school you have to constantly be watching your GPA and doing everything that you can to get good grades because if your GPA plummets there is no way you are getting into college and that is a lot of pressure to put on a young high school student.

5. The ACT/SAT

The one test that determines your entire future. No pressure. This is not a good representation of the knowledge of a student with testing anxiety. Just saying.

6. No more dress code

In college you have the freedom to wear whatever you want when you want. You have complete freedom to express yourself through what you wear. No more having to cover your shoulders because they are “distracting.”

7. Learning what you are interested in

You no longer have to take boring classes that are uninteresting and insignificant to what you want to do with your life. In college you can pick your classes that are interesting to you and choose what you want to learn.

High school is a really rough time. There is so much pressure to fit in and to be liked by your peers and get good grades and get into college at the same time, and that is a lot of pressure to put on a teenager who has no idea what they want to do with their life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
