Gods Will >>> our will

Do you ever find yourself sitting around thinking, “Why did God put me here? What is His will for my life?” I find myself doing this a lot especially since I’ve been in college. I’m going to be completely open and honest with you in this blog mainly because I want you to know that you aren’t alone when you’re thinking these things, and there's nothing wrong with thinking it! If you’re a Christian, you should have the desire to know what God will is for your life, to know that you’re doing what He’s called you to do.

I recently had a conversation with one of my best friends about this particular subject. I feel that it was definitely a “God thing” because it's something that I have been struggling with, and my friend had no idea! I’ve always wanted so badly to know exactly what it is that God wants me to do, and I want it to be laid out in front of me so that I wouldn’t have a single doubt about it. I find myself thinking and wondering if, for instance, take my wanting to be a teacher, "Is this something I've convinced myself that God wants me to do, or has He really called me to do it?" I let these thoughts crowd my mind so much so that I find myself looking for things that would prove to me whether it is His will or not. Silly, I know.

So, to get to the main point..

First of all, none of what I'm about to say is going to make sense or matter if you don't have a relationship with God. You have to be walking hand in hand with Him. You have to be reading God's Word, praying, even being involved in church or some sort of Bible study. I say that because that is how you grow as a Christian, and it is in those times that God can speak to us and through us. By doing these things, you're allowing God to grow you and mold you into the person that He wants you to be and, in this case, the person that He has called you to be.

You may find yourself thinking right now, "I don't know if I am a Christian or if I have a real relationship with God." If that's the case, I urge you to settle that before it's too late. You may ask, "Well, how do I become a Christian?"

I'm so glad you asked.

Romans 3:23 says, "For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (HCSB)

Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (HCSB)

Romans 5:8 says, "But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us" (HCSB)

Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you WILL be saved" (HCSB)

Romans 10:13 says, "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (HCSB)

If you read those verses, and you feel the Holy Spirit drawing you to salvation, then all you have to do is cry out to Jesus. It is very simple. It doesn't have to be a fancy prayer, nor does it have to be super long. Just simply admit to God that you are a sinner and that you're in need of a savior; ask Him to forgive you and to come into your heart, and He will save you! If you did that and truly meant it, praise God!

Okay... secondly, you need to surrender your life and your will to God. Often times, I find myself saying, "Alright God, I really want this: for You to do this for me or for You to let this fall into place... please do that for me. God, I want your will to be done in my life." How much sense does that make? I basically just told God what I wanted Him to do for me and in my life rather than surrendering everything to Him and allowing Him to do a mighty work in my life.

I urge you, and myself too, to stop telling God what you want and simply come to Him saying, "God, I surrender everything to you. Do what YOU will."

Third, do you have a gift or talent that God has given you? If so, pay attention to it and what you're doing with it. This could be preaching, teaching kids, playing an instrument, anything that you're doing to bring glory to God and to spread His message. God has gifted every person on the planet with a special and unique gift or talent that only that specific person can fulfill and carry out. That is so awesome to think about! If you're using your gifts/talents, then you are in God's will--whether you realized it or not.

Next, if you're a Christian, you already know what is right and what is not. God put us here on the Earth to spread the gospel, to love His people, and to be a shining light for Him; so that others might come to know Him. We get so caught up in trying to figure out what His will is for us that we lose sight of the fact that the majority of it is right in front of us and has been for forever; it is in His Word. I saw a saying or quote the other day that said, "If we don't obey the things that God has already showed us to be His will, what makes you think He would reveal anything else to us regarding His plan for our lives?" So do what you know is right, obedience is key.

Make sure that you're listening to your heart. Most importantly, take time to listen to God speak when you're praying and reading His Word. In Psalms 37:4-5 it says,

"Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart's desires. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act" (HCSB)

When you're walking close to the Lord, He will allow you to do awesome things! God will begin to mold your desires into what He desires for your life, and when you're doing life God's way, it will be the greatest thing ever.

To sum everything up for you... it is okay to wonder what God's will for your life is; however, if He gave you or told you everything He wanted you to do right now, you wouldn't have a clue how to carry any of it out. This is why we need to surrender our plans to Him and allow Him to work in our lives and mold us into the person that He wants us to be, and along the way, He will teach you things that you will hang on to forever. Be sure that you're using your gifts and talents to bring glory to God. Do what you know is right and pleasing in the Lord's eyes, listen to Him speak, and watch Him do mighty works! I pray that these things will help you a little bit just as they have helped me. I'm so thankful that God allowed me to have this particular talk the other day, for it truly has helped me tremendously!

Xoxo

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
