I have been quiet for long enough, but now it’s my turn to speak.
I have one question for our country: Why do we have to fit into one box?
Even though we live in a free country, why are we being confined to little boxes, in which we have to fit ourselves into with the sign of a checkmark.
As I find myself in the middle of political discussions in college, I just keep getting asked the same darn questions- Do you agree with this, do you agree with that? And I’ve come to the conclusion that I can’t win with my answers.
When I give my conservatively sided opinion, people automatically assume I am conservative. But that isn’t true. They just didn’t ask about ALL of my beliefs or opinions. But If they did, they would see that I do not fit into a box, but I am outside of it--in my own world.
You see, politics are stereotyped to where people who are pro-life, aren’t pro-woman. But this isn’t true. Just because I am pro-life, doesn’t mean I am not for woman's rights. As hard as it is to believe, I think that being pro-life IS pro-woman because there is nothing more amazing than the woman's body having the ability to create a human being. This is something that no man will ever be able to do and we should be proud of that!
There also is the stereotype that people who are republican don’t believe in global warming. But that is not the case either. After working on my high school's SGA project on global warming, it was made clear to me that the polar ice caps are melting, we aren't supposed to get three feet of snow in March, and if we don't do something soon, our whole earth will become one big trash island. So yes, I am a registered republican and I believe in global warming.
What I am not for is Trump. Just because someone says they are republican, does not mean they voted that way. In the primaries, it is true that if you put yourself down as a republican, you can only vote for the republican candidates. But on election day, anyone can vote for anyone. And as a registered republican, I can say that I would have liked many of the other republican candidates before choosing Trump. And so would have a lot of other republicans.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there are people who do believe in those things and we all should respect others opinions. I am just pointing out that this isn’t the case for everyone, so don’t be so fast to jump to a conclusion.
I just wish everyone could discuss and not argue. Love does trump hate, so lets stop hating on each other for our opinions and love each other as brother and sister as God intended.
