Bloomington, Ill. - Returning from a cross-country road trip to southern California, Felicia Gooding, 21, was forced to sit quietly while her three other friends sang along the entire lyrics to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. The ordeal, which sources report occurred somewhere between Albuquerque, N.M., and Amarillo, Texas, left Gooding feeling both awkward and excluded.
“It was absolutely miserable,” said Gooding. “All I could do was sit and watch nonchalantly from the outside hoping that they weren’t judging me too harshly.”
Reporters claim that the moment the song came on the radio, the three other passengers, Allison Welch, 21, Jessica Booker, 19, and Ayana Martinez, 20, all shouted and immediately began singing at the top of their vocal capacities.
“I’ve heard the song before,” Gooding added, just before finishing her second bag of Ruffles since passing through Tulsa. “I just don’t know the entire thing. It’s not even in the Top 100. Sue me.”
This is not the first instance where Gooding has not known the lyrics to a popular tune. During a fraternity’s Christmas party last winter, she was one of the few who did not know “Let It Go” from the popular children's flick, "Frozen."
“That was a terrible experience as well,” said Gooding. “At every break in the song, people would yell at me, ‘How do you not know this?!,’ or, ‘Have you seriously never heard this before?!’"
Gooding states she is growing tired of receiving criticism from peers at social events where she does not know a certain song’s lyrics. She claims this has been happening as long as she can remember, citing middle school dances and one high school prom.
"I took a lot of heat for butchering Sean Kingston's 'Me Love' sometime during my junior prom," exclaimed Gooding. "My date absolutely humiliated me in front of all our friends. So rude."
Gooding left us with this final quote.“Every time something like this happens, I’m always ridiculed as if I just kicked a dog. I don't think they understand how hard it is to watch from the side as everyone else is having a blast. I guess I’ll just have to find time in my schedule to learn songs that everyone knows.”
