Every hour counts.
Wake up, and the day begins.
Study languages? Which language? Better yet, what class or family of languages? There are Indo-European, Afro-Asiatic, Japanese, Korean, Uto-Aztecan, Na-Dene, Mayan languages, Mapudungun. Just one language out of any of the class of languages takes a day to memorize dozens of words and a handful of grammatical rules, but a week or so to commit to memory. It can take months to become fluent in just one language, but only with practice day to day.
What about studying science? Physics, biology, chemistry, and mathematics have lots of patterns that can be memorized more easily without having to study them constantly. However, to become proficient enough to hold a job in science, you need to limit your interests and treat your field like a language.
What about advancing a career in music? Besides spending several hundreds of dollars for a beginner's instrument, you also need to dedicate hours at a time to fine tuning your instrument to your muscle memory.
What about being a chef?
Again, lots of money, again and again, and lots of hours (and friends) needed to get feedback and better your skill.
What about being a film-maker?
Well, you need even more money to buy the equipment you want, a crew to work with, and time to travel to locations.
And what about staying in good shape?
It's a constant struggle to take care of something that is constantly being challenged to stay still. Even though it always feels rewarding, it's difficult to start.
Even though it will always feel rewarding, it's difficult to start.
There's not enough hours in a day, but there are enough hours in a year, in many years, in a lifetime. Things will happen in time, as they have happened throughout time. There really is no better remedy than to know that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and that modesty in everything is key. Now, where to begin?
