5 Games You Played As A Child

Games have been around since the late 1950s. William Higinbotham, a physicist, worked in a lab where one of the first games was created. He decided to call the game Tennis for Two, which is very similar to the game Pong that came out in the 70's. Ever since then, video games had played a huge role in society. The gaming business has which been highly successful since it has been invented. Everyone probably had played at least one game in their lives. These five games are sure to make you feel old and give you nostalgia.

1. Pac Man

Pac Man is probably a game you have heard of. The mechanics are very simple; the player must travel around eating orbs while avoiding ghosts. The main objective is to get the high score. Pac Man has survived since the 1980s. You probably still can find the original arcade game in old arcades, bowling alleys, or basically anywhere that has arcade games. Since the launch of the game, it has increased in popularity where there has been more spin off games, appearances in movies, and has its own TV show made by Disney.

2. Tetris

Nothing says a good quality game like Tetris. Tetris is a very addicting game where the player must stack falling shapes in order to make horizontal lines that disappear, which gives the player points. Just like Pac Man, the player must achieve the high score. As the game progresses the shapes fall faster and simple shapes are rarer.

3. Sonic The Hedgehog

Cue the fast blue-haired hedgehog. The point of Sonic is to stop Dr. Eggman, while traversing through different worlds. At the end of each world, Dr. Eggman shows up with one of his variety of machines to stop the player. The player must collect coins in order to survive in the game. The end goal is to pass each level as fast as possible while trying to get a high score. Sonic has a lot of different cartoon TV shows, spin off games, and its own animated movie.

4. Mario

This would not be a list without Nintendo's mascot. Mario has been in many games since 1981, with two new ones coming later this year or next year. Mario must save Princess Peach from the dreaded Bowser. The point of Mario is to travel to 8 distinct worlds with different levels. Mario has its own live action movie and its own line of collectible toys. If you have not heard of this plumber, you probably have been living under a rock.

5. Pokemon Red version

This game sparked a revolution in the gaming industries, from the collectible cards to a very successful anime T.V. show. You probably have heard of or have played "Pokemon Go" which took mobile gaming by storm. People can not seem to get enough of Pokemon. The oldest game of the franchise is the Red version, where the player must travel around the Kanto Region collecting and training Pokemon in order to battle opponents to become the very best. With there being a new game set to come out in November of this year and rumors of a new movie, Pokemon seems like it is not going anywhere.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
