We are about 10 weeks into the semester, and college is already taking an interesting turn.
Beside all the classes and stressful exams, I'm enjoying the resident life. I have a great group of friends that keep me sane, but also know how to have a good time.
I've noticed, however, the group of "close" friends is getting smaller. It's not to say I have less friends, but rather growing closer to a couple that stand out the most. I can still see my other friends around, say "hey, what's up?," and have a conversation, but these close friends are those whom I can spill my secrets and concerns to. These are the people I can see myself graduate with, and know for the rest of my life. Without them, I don't know what I'd be doing.
Living on campus is also become easier. I learned that I can take care of myself way better than I thought I could in the beginning of the semester. Through this, I am also learning managing skills, such as my time and money, a couple of skills worthy to have in the real world. I still hate doing laundry though... like, very much.
We got our first taste of snow recently. Through the weekend, snow fell from the sky for a couple of days. As expected, snow in Vermont is beautiful, however I have my doubts about how much snow this place can hold. From just the weight of a couple of inches of snow, many trees around campus broke in half. It will be interesting to see how our campus can do when the real snow comes; like several feet of snow!
My roommate brought his car up, which opens up a lot more opportunity to go around and explore. Because Norwich is basically in the middle of nowhere, we've driven to near cities such as Montpelier or Burlington to spend a nice evening, maybe get some food or go shopping.
As I expected, my worst class would have to be Chemistry; I hate the fact that it is self-taught. There is just so much to memorize and practice, it becomes very stressful at a point to learn all the material on my own. My favorite class is Pre-calculous. My professor lectures very clearly, and in a way that makes sense. After each lesson, I feel like I can perform any problem that I learned that day without a problem. To confirm this, I aced my first quiz and 2 tests. Definitely a great boost to my GPA!There are some things that are upsetting me, first being how we are in the middle of nowhere. Coming from Boston, I miss having access to a larger and dense city close by. Vermont isn't that, unfortunately.
Also, I wish the food here was better. I feel that Sodexo does not provide much healthy options when it comes to food. The high carb menu isn't what I am looking for, especially while trying to stay fit. Other food options would be the Mill, and Dunkin Donuts, which I LOVE. I don't know what I would do if it wasn't for Dunkins, My closest friend and I get a coffee and muffin almost every day. I guess it's safe to say, we run on Dunkin.
There it is, Norwich is going by great so far. Aside from some hiccups here and there, My friends and I are enjoying ourselves very much.
